Seeing things?

Postby BlinkyBear » Mon Oct 17, 2011 1:52 am

I'm currently going off my bipolar medication under my doctor's supervision. Things have been going alright, but lately I've noticed that I sometimes see things (movement, shapes, figures) out of the corner of my eye and it causes me intense anxiety and paranoia when this happens. I always have a feeling that I know what it is, almost like deja vu. Is it just a normal thing, or is it something I need to bring up to my doctor on my next visit? Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

I am sorry you are experiencing this. I see things as part of psychotic experiences and i wonder if this is what you are going through. I would def bring this up with your Dr ASAP. Let us know how it goes.

Thank you for the reply, Cracked. I will give my doctor a call and see if I can get an earlier appointment. I was just a little iffy because it's only in the corner of my eye that I see it and when I turn to fully face it, it's gone. I'm not really having any other symptoms apart from that and the feelings that come with it when it happens.

Yeah - I do think it is worth getting checked, even to rule out medical causes too.

Hi blink. I experience this also as a part of my psychosis. Although they do let me see them full faced and I hear voices. But talking about this to your Doctor would be a good thing.

Thank you again Cracked and thank you for the reply Jesse. I'll post again here after I talk to my doctor with a follow-up.

Hi Blinky bear, I've been having these for the past month even though I'm stable mood wise. I see flashing lights and blurry dark shapes in my peripheral vision. Today I saw what looked like a full person walking past me on my right. I'm interested to know what your Dr. says. My Dr. wasn't concerned about it.

I can say I was dx as having psychotic features as an adolescent because of this and hearing phantom music coming from the next room.

Do you always know they're not real when they happen?

I know this was not directed at me but when I have visual hallucinations sometimes I think they are real and sometimes I know they are hallucinations. I think it partly depends on my mood and how well I am otherwise and also pattern recognition - like I know I see tarantulas and that they are not real but today I am certain I saw someone's ears grow and even tho logically that can't be real I am sure that it is.

Thx for chiming in Cracked. I'm confused about the knowing vs not knowing. But often logic, and a day or two of feeling better, makes me see I'm hallucinating. as in I probably couldnt actually hear the ice cream truck from the 12th story of a locked ward. Plus who buys ice cream at 9 am at the hospital?
