Days off work?

Postby wgirl » Tue May 17, 2011 11:44 pm

I've made accommodations with my employer that I can take additional sick days as needed for days where I'm bed-ridden sick and have no energy for even self-care. On other days, I'm super-productive and a top notch employee.

One of the annoyances I encounter is that whenever I renew my accommodations with HR, they always need to know "how many" days off I will be requesting for the upcoming next 3 months, as if I knew the exact number of days I'd be medically incapacitated. I am always left putting a number that represents the stats from the last 3 months, even though the stats of the next 3 months could be much higher or lower, of course.

How have other people managed accommodations for days off with work?

I don't have any special accommodations and it's a big problem. I'm consumed with stress and worry. I wish I had some flexibility to alleviate the stress. How did you approach them?

I would say educate yourself on the labour laws of your country, province or whatever regarding employees with disabilities. Then talk to your manager and HR. It helps immensely if you've already proven yourself to your employer to be a great employee.

It's not directly related to what your asking on this thread (I'm a self-employed bi-polar so can't relate directly) but one thing I've observed myself and a couple others I've gotten to know..

As long as you can actually make it out of bed (there's time's I couldn't as well, esp. pre-meds), I sometimes wonder if we don't actually do better work when were "down". Oh I know it's not as creative, as fun, and it feels all wrong.. But one recent example of a friend, responsible for shooting video at a two day conference. High one day, felt awesome, but had so many things going on, so much "fun" that I suspect they shot as good maybe better video on the next day, when everything felt awful.

Like I said, realize it's not directly connected to your thread topic, I'm glad your with a business that understands and is accommodating.
