Residual anxiety

Postby keylimepie » Wed May 26, 2010 12:58 pm

So, the lithium seems to have started to work over the last week and i feel much better, but I still have some residual anxiety and a bit of anger/impatience. I don't know if maybe the anxiety especially is related to something else, some sort of anxiety disorder (my mom has one that began about my age) or if maybe it will go away as time goes on. I hear sometimes it can take like a few weeks to totally control all the effects, or maybe the dose is still not right (I am on 900mg, though, and am fairly petite although I have gained some weight, much to my dismay). I dont see my pdoc for a few more weeks as he is on vaca, so by the time I do see him, it should be in full effect. Any clue on how drs detrmine this, or maybe your experiences once the meds start working on remaining symptoms, how long they take to go away, or if they stayed?

Lithium isn't going to treat your anxiety.
It will probably sedate you more than you're expecting once it's in full effect.
The sedation will possibly help the anxiety and anger since those are not sedative moods...
But it's not going to be what you're expecting.

I know people that do great on lithium.
I veto because it's sedative and can be toxic...
Plus I veto most meds because I don't really like the idea of putting toxins in my body...
Hence the organic food and hatred of meds...
Anyway, I hope you do well.
Many people that did well at one point ended up having toxicity later in life... and that messed them up bad.
But I totally hope you do well, though.

I am not sure he expects me to be on it for too long. I told him my insurance required a 90 day rx after the second refill and he said that he doesnt want to give me that just in case he switches me because itll be a pain, so to get refills at Walmart or Targetsince they are like $4-5 there.

Yeah, so far I dont really have any sedative effect whatsoever. I am not energized like mad crazy anymore, not waking up feeling hyper, but I have no issues doing what I need to do either and I can think clearly. Well, maybe some short term memory stuff, but I have always forgotten where I put things a minute after I put them down, so maybe not! But the agitation is pretty much gone, thank goodness!

I am not a big one for meds. Well, my hubby is even less, so I have had lectures from the therapist on how I need it, and didnt feel like telling her that my hubby was talking more about himself than me. I veto birth control meds because I dont like the idea of regulating natural cycles with hormones. But when there is an actual problem I have less issues, particularly if its treating a cause and not a symptom (in example, not treating heartburn but the reason for having heartburn, kwim? Pain meds as an exception of course.)

But I dont know. I will see how it goes. My concern is more they talk about not heavily sweating when on lithium. Well, uh, I work out, and I liv ein southern VA, where it is VERY humid. If you go outside in the summer, you sweat.

I believe in birth control... simply because I don't want a kid right now.
I use Nuvaring.
YAY NUVARING!

I don't consider that a medication.
It's just a hormone, which is natural-esque...
Like my morning vitamins are natural-esque.

I believe in birth control for other people. Just not myself. The hormones are sorta natural, just you get the wrong hormones atthe right time. Anyhow, hubby is cut, so I dont need it.

Yeah... getting my 24 year old bf cut would just not happen...
Lol.

I'm pretty unable to have kids, as far as the last seven miscarriages have indicated.
It's really annoying to be scared you're pregnant and then upset you lost it all in one swoop, though.
So I just avoid the situation...
Our lack of sex life helps, too.

It could happen one day. My cousin was trying and she had miscarraige after miscarraige. They finally figured out it was a hormonal problem and she took meds and now has a little boy. But that isn't something you do if you aren't trying, you know? Anyhow, if someday you want kids, it may be something that can be dealt with.

I'm just planning to adopt.
I'm not particularly keen on the idea of shoving another living being through my vaginal cavity ANYWAY...
I kind of like my VC... I don't want to wreck it...

 Your vc is less of an issue. Now...I am not going to mention how badly my daughter tore me. Nothing like an almost 9 lb baby that is perfectly aligned coming out in 2-3 pushes to give you major tears requiring what could almost be termed reconstructive surgery! ouch!!!
