I have just been diagnosed with Bipolar. I have been having cyclonic moods. Smoking seems to bring on mixed episodes. I do not want to go on lithium or psych meds. I think I can manage without it at this current point. Any tips on managing would be much regarded.

I know it's been a while since you posted this but I thought I would respond for you and anyone else who might see this post.
I know this might seem like dull advice but I can tell you after learning the hard way for 37 years since I have been diagnosed, these things helped me.
- Good eating habits, exercise, and most important, good sleep are some of the best things you can do for yourself.
- Stay away from anything that alters your mind - booze, drugs, etc. I self-medicated using these and wasted years of my life.
- Involve yourself in things you love. Stay away from things that cause stress.
In truth, this advice is good for everyone. But for someone with Bipolar Disorder (me!) it can be life-saving.
