Experiences with Geodon? Recently Started

Postby Margirl257 » Tue May 15, 2018 5:48 pm

Hello,
I recently started Geodon about a week ago. I am taking 40mg twice a day. If anyone can share their experiences with this medication it would be very helpful. (Preferably good experiences). I mainly struggle with depression and irrational emotional thoughts (not mania). I have not noticed many side effects, but I am not sure if it is helping or making my mood worse, since there are so many factors to take into account right now. (For example, job stress, lack of friends (loneliness), interactions with other medications, ect.) I have been in frequent communication with my Psychiatrist, however it is always extremely helpful to get feedback from other people who have taken medications. My psychiatrist and I pretty much agree that most of trying medications is trial and error, so I really appreciate any responses from other people. Currently I am also taking Lamictal (400mg), Wellbutrin(300mg), Adderall(15mg), and Klonopin. (I want to lower the Lamictal since it has definitely been losing effectiveness over time.)
Thank you,

Hi,

I only take Geodon at night (with 500 calories of food), as it can be sedating for me. However, I feel refreshed when I wake up. I have bipolar type 1 and I take it for mania and psychosis. Lamictal helps me with the “depressive” side...although my predominant mood state is a mixed episode with psychosis.

I also take Wellbutrin and Klonoplin.

It sounds like Geodon is working out for you, that’s great. I’ve taken it for a few years now and there have been times where I cannot sleep due to severe mania or a mixed episode.

I believe it’s been approved by the FDA for treatment resistant depression but I’m not positive.

That’s a bummer Lamictal is pooping out on you. It’s the only med I’ve stayed on since my original diagnosis of bipolar disorder in 2006. My dosage has varied. I’ve been up to 600 mg. I currently take 100 mg in the morning and 250 mg at night.

I don't have any good experiences with geodon because I had some side effects I didn't like (insomnia and vomiting) but I've read quite a few accounts of other members here doing well on it.
All I saw was the Devil's soul
And it looked a helluva lot like my own

Sorry for the late reply, been dealing with some personal issues (non-bipolar related)

I've been on Geodon for years, and while I was only ever put on one other anti-psychotic - Riserpdal (which was horrible) - Geodon helps me out greatly. It does have its flaws, but that's any medication. It helps me sleep when manic, and that's the thing I like about it the most. I don't get manic or psychotic anywhere near as much as I used to, but I literally can't sleep without taking my dosage (180mg). Once I'm asleep, I'm asleep.

I don't really have any nasty side effects from mine, or any that I can think of off the top of my head, but I take mine before bed. Two 80mg pills. I've never heard of someone taking two different doses throughout the day. My doctor told me it sedates you, and that's why he told me to take it at night.
