Night One of Lamictal

Postby 2cool4u » Thu Dec 06, 2012 11:23 am

I'm not that great at taking meds if I don't forsee them helping or necessary. I started Lamictal 25mg last night and went to bed at 10:30pm. I woke up at 12:30am with my ears SO loud! It was kinda like ears ringing but also just like loudness! I wanted to cover my ears but I knew it was just of my head. Never had that happen before. Than also major stomach pains. And my acid reflux acting up. Can these be from the Lamictal? The noise went for like 45 minutes. Took about 2.5 hours to fall back asleep. I'm now up for work so got a total of 3.5 hours of sleep. Will these pass as my body gets use to the drug or would these just be side effects I'd have to deal with? I'm to take the 25mg for 2 weeks than up it to 50mg for 2 more weeks. I go back to psych in 2 weeks. Will they get worse when I up the dose? I feel better now so just hoping it's my body getting use to it... My stomach is on/off feeling funny still and my acid reflux is still acting up but I plan to take some anti acid meds which should take care of that. Any info will help! Thanks all!

Hi hon

I did not have those side effects from starting lamotrigine but ppl get all sorts of odd things from meds and it does vary between ppl. Often side effects do get better with time tho this is not always the case. I think if it continues you should let your Dr know in case they need to be aware or adjust the meds you are on. I do hope it settles.

Well night two went MUCH better! Only woke up once at 3am but no hallucinations of any kind and got back to sleep relatively well. Yay! Hopefully it continues to go well...

2cool!!

The only "side effect" I had from it was a bit of induced mania, but that calmed down within 3-4 days. It was really helpful for my depression, so if you're having issues there, hopefully it will be as helpful for you as it was for me!

Keep us updated on how it's going! :D

Night 3: UGH!!!! Night 3 SUCKED ASS!!!!! I technically got 7 hours of sleep but I woke up SO MANY times within the night! I feel like I got none. And due to my disrupts of sleep, I feel very irritable today. Just wish I could call into work and not feel bad and sleep the day away and start over tomorrow! Fml.

So I tried to take a nap last night for an hour and felt as if I only laid there for 5 minutes.. once up I felt sick from lack of sleep. So last night I took a Trazadone 50mg that I had from last year that I never took in hopes I'd finally get a good nights rest! I feel a lot more rested! I still woke up 2-3 times but got right back to sleep! So Imma continue to take the Traz and hopefully my psych lady don't get mad since she never prescribed me it lol

My first week (really the first two) on Lamotrigine/Lamictal caused some pretty intense psychotic/physical symptoms I'd never had before (at least not that bad), and I was in a pretty consistent (and awful) mixed state until I upped the dose to 50mg. The adjustment period kind of sucks. :? I feel great lately, though, only getting out of whack when I drink caffeine, and I'm on week 4. :)

My next appointment with my psych lady is the 17th. My Lamictal gets upped to 50mg on the 19th. I been tempted to quit it though cuz of how I been lately. I feel more crazy ON the med than OFF all! But I haven't cuz she expects me to. So does my counselor. So outta stuborness I been sticking to it. That and hearing that someone else can relate with hopes it'll get better. So I'll stick it out a little longer...
