Well, i've recently made contact with a few psycologists for the first time (I was advised to talk to more then one). I have yet to go in for an assessment. I'm a little weary of my first appointment though, which is later this month. The doctor told me (over the phone) that the first hour session/assessment was $150. It was hard to tell over the phone if he wanted to help or if he even gave a $#%^. Maybe its just me being paranoid, dunno. But $150 seems kind of steep for an assessment doesn't it? Is this normal?

I went to see a therapist about a year ago. She charged me 5 dollars a session, because of my poor peoples insurance. So I dont know if that is what you would normally pay. Also I think it depends on how good professionally your clinician is. My therapist was a sweet elderly lady who didnt ever understand what I was trying to say to her, partly because she didnt really know alot of english. I'd have to talk louder and more clearer, which caused me more stress because I thought she was somehow making 'fun' of me, or pulling a psychological 'game' on me. Now that I think about it its pretty funny. Dont know why, but somehow that therapy session didnt quite work for me. I guess thats what you get for 5 dollars.

Always remember therapists are IN BUSINESS to make money.
Had over 20 years "therapy" with many counselors. Mostly to handle depression. The depression may wax and wane, the avoidance is constant. My current rx-doc has helped me feek ok about avoidance. Truth is, I LIKE it. I get stressed having to go out and confront life. I'm older now, and letting the chips fall where they may.
