self deserting avpd v primarily inattentive add

Postby redhorse » Tue Nov 29, 2011 12:27 pm

I think that anyone who is drawn to the term self deserting avpd
http://www.4degreez.com/disorder/forum/ ... hread.html

should also be aware of primarily inattentive add which is NOTHING to do with being hyperactive.

The two disorders have some overlapping characteristics in that both sets of individuals tend towards fantasy daydreaming etc and both have social issues. There is a forum here which deals with it.

http://www.addforums.com

People with the disorder are often diagnosed later in life often after years of personal mayhem ( and sometimes with depression/mood disorders/substance abuse thrown into the mix.)

Many of them are shocked to find themselves diagnosed with add as they thought add meant being a hyperactive kid.Women get it more than men but men have it too.School reports tended to state smart but needs to stop daydreaming. They were the kids who were always forgetting their homework. They maybe had problems catching a ball or passing their driving test etc.

Anyway because of the shared tendency to struggle with social situations and to have major issues with fantasy daydreaming etc I thought that the self deserting avpds should be aware of it as a possible differential diagnosis.

Self-deserting certainly fits and I have GAD. There is absolutely no hyperactivity in me. Makes me good candidate for ADD?

But still I don't think so:
In childhood: I was extremely shy. I think, I had selective mutism.
I tend to finish tasks (when depression or anxiety don't hammer my mind).
I am responsible. Always on time.
I don't forget things.

Hi. My post was only to raise awareness of the other condition. I understand that many people who feel that they are self deserting avoidants...ARE self deserting avoidants. I just got lost between the 2 conditions and Im just trying to help someone else dodge the pothole.
