Asperger's & Avoidance

Postby Dwight » Fri Sep 02, 2011 5:46 am

I know this is about a person with Asperger's but it's seen through my Avie eyes

I have been reading some questions answered by Temple Grandin.
Some time ago I watched a movie of her story which has had a huge influcence on my life.

The strenght in her answers and knowing her story made me sad (hello Mr. Avoidance) that we don't have a speaker, some major Avie who has broken the mold of avoidance and is telling our story... and has answers to our questions.

There is a lot of information out there on AvPD, however it all says the same thing.
You read cluster C on Avoidance and you see yourself.
but that's all-no new earth shattering stuff- no new studies same ole same ole.

Where is our "Temple Grandin"of Avoidance?

If you have a chance to watch her movie, do so then you'll see what a inspiration she is and how important she is to As.

I agree, I've never actually seen a book written by someone with AvPD to document what it was like for them. I've seen books published by people who have been diagnosed with bipolar, with autism, with eating disorders, with OCD, even with schizophrenia, but I haven't seen anything written by a person with AvPD.

This is Temple.

Maybe part of our answers come from people like Temple with this gift of visualizing?
One for my pysch to answer I think.

A mentor with Temple's insight into Avoidance would bring more studies, more answers- books movies you name it.
Psych's and therapists would be fed a wealth of information as part of their studies and then it becomes part of our therapy.

I received a reply from my pysch yet still to talk in detail.

There is no spokesperson for your group beacuse of the nature of the disorder.
Asperger's syndrome symptoms result in amazing talents for some individuals and these are news worthy.

I still think answers lie within the whole pyschForums family in particular the Asperger's group with their eye for detail.

Will push this issue though I'm not sure what will come out of it.

It's because avpd isn't really exciting.

We don't really add or take anything away from society. Aspergers is considered interesting because of the reasons you said in your last post. They have an interesting mind.

Narcissistics get attention because of their percieved negative influence on relationships, while some are seen as experts in their feild of work. Even Law and Order had an episode featuring a woman with histrionic PD.

We are just seen as the 'quiet ones' or hermits of society. Nothing special about that, so thats why we don't get much attention or help.

I've even tried searching for avpd specialists in Australia and have only found one based in Sydney. Simple fact is we don't really have a negative or interesting impact on society so we aren't going to get much research into our disorder.

G'day drawbridgeB

Yes, I have heard we're a quiet bunch which only dismissed as a rumor.

We do have alot of intelligent Avie people and these are the ones who will create, discover or invent something that not only will they be proud of and want to display but the public will want to know more about who they are and their background.

Their story will become just as important as their studies.
We are good people with difficult stories and just because we aren't all that exciting doesn't mean our stories are.

For the time being I would love avoidance to be under the visual eye of Temple to teach us what we live with and don't see... you wouldn't by any chance have her phone number

However the only problem I can see is the SA folks going for the up-grade to Avoidance.

Thanks for this Dwight. Eventually I'll come back to this topic.

You are passionate about this subject (of Avi's finding a voice through media)... you encourage others. How close are you to being the person who delivers?

Hi W,

Yes, I'm passionate about Avoidance but I'm un-educated.
From pre-school, primary and high school because I was quiet I slipped through bringing no attention to me.. as well as, no education.
Can't you tell with my sentences with the --- & the ... (because, I don't know how to do sentences)

So even if I had the worlds attention.. (as if) I couldn't make people understand how hard it is to live with avoidance or to get the message out there.
I have even had normies ask me the same question and they usually reply "oh yeah, I'm like that"

I'm un-teachable, I learn't about avoidance not from books, but the hard way---learn't by experience I took everything avoidance had- it did suck the life out of me so I have seen how bad it gets.
I know if I was educated I wouldn't of fallen so hard with the cost so high-- but the positive side I can help everyone here -or at least try.

I'm amazed the way people can explain their situation in detail and make one paragrah flow into the next  - these are the people whose strories and personalty is whats needed.
Like your question, you made a impact by saying a lot with so few words.... maybe its you the world is waiting for

The thing is someone like Temple Grandin overcame a serious disability. There was something definitively and tangibly "wrong" with her that needed to be overcome.

With avies there isn't actually anything wrong in reality. Its all just in your head.

Hey 71,

This is the second time you've chipped my comment
Here something to think about next time you open you mouth... You're not an avie!

So what ever you think we're like "YOUR ONLY GUESSING" apart from no thought you have no cred.

I have done nothing in the past to offend you- you are the second person to have a shot a me... for what "helping"- this is #######4

I usually put people before me and tonight is no different-
I'll keep my comments to myself and I'll change my profile to silent so you won't even know when I come and go.

Well done champ.. you win dickhead
