Postponing

Postby viscereal » Fri Aug 26, 2011 12:06 pm

I will be short.
Do us, avies usually postpone things? Like writing homeworks in the last minute or learning for an exam in the last week? In the last time i've been like this and it's not really pleasant.
And the high school is starting in two weeks. I really want to change
It's just me?

Hi V,

Yeah, just another thing we avoid, till were pressed to make it happen.

I think its important that you get things done but at YOUR pace and if that is waiting to be mentally prepared for the best results -so be it.

Hell yeah, procrastination's my middle name! :)
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus.

Thank you for your fast replies.

I've found a procrastination picture, pretty ironic one
Reminds me that I always say I will get it done tomorrow, until the last moment.

I am the worst. Homework, projects, even things like going to the shops I'll do 5 mins before the shop closes. I've been saying 'I'm going to get my hair cut' every week for the past year. (Also I hate the pressure of feeling like I have to talk to the hairdresser. Just cut my hair dammit!)

I'm in college and every year I say that I'm going to take fabulous notes and read them every night and do essays in good time and blah blah blah. It lasts for about a week and then I'm up at 2am trying to finish some report due for 9am the next day. I am quite organised and have great intentions, but I just don't take action until the last moment. I don't think I'm really going to change either! :(

LOL I used to hate this so much, all they ever did was ask me if I had a boyfriend. Every. Single. One. What does that have to do with my hair? I just do my own now, much cheaper and no annoying hairdressers.

Onto the original topic, yes, I'm also a procrastinator. :P I'm one of those people that waits until Christmas week to buy presents. I feel like I often keep myself from doing things because I see them as stressful but I just end up making them more stressful by putting them off for later and having to rush to get them done.

All thoughts are prey to some beast

Guilty as charged. Pretty much for my entire life.

This is built into my avoidance. I made every attempt to convince myself I was normal growing up despite the mounting evidence of my abnormalness, particularly my shyness. I used petty excuses in an attempt to build myself up. I successfully lied to myself so much I barely knew what the truth was anymore.

In the end, I knew I should have sought help or opened up about my problems about, oh, 10 years ago instead of just 7 months ago. I finally had enough with myself and admitted I was abnormal and needed help. I am so glad I opened up. Better late than never, I guess.

Procrastinating can be okay sometimes; hey, some people work better under the gun. There are some things, however, in which it is unhealthy to keep putting off.
Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by ignorance. ~Hanlon's Razor abbr.

If a composer could say what he had to say in words he would not bother trying to say it in music. ~Gustav Mahler

I did that for a very long time. I was so afraid of making a fool of myself or doing something wrong, that I always procrastinated.

However, I got healed when I got to manage a team. I started to learn that the best time to do anything is now. That doesn't mean it is any easier.
