It's mainly abstract algebra, "real analysis", and set theory. Its mainly about proofs, and a set up for graduate school. And there is a ton of writing. Its strange stuff, and it makes me want to slam my head on the desk. Its not even arithmetic based, its all theory and proofs. And discussing with student and writing :x . Its really weird $#%^. Its definatly a full load.

Are you sure the course/university is right for you?
I spent two years at uni doing a course that really wasn't right for me. Even though I know I wasn't enjoying it, I stuck it out because I felt like I needed to. Like I'd be letting certain people down if I dropped out.

I've just started at uni again. Living at home this time. This course is much more suited to me, and I've already been invited to hang out with people doing the degree.

No, im not really sure. But im better at math than I am at anything else. So if I wanna get somewhere math is my best option. The only guy I know in the class, or on campus, is a complete and utter prick.

One thing is clearr, you can´t be all day in your room sticking to the computer. Is there any park where you can do some jogging or walking? I used to do that and them my mind is better.
And in relation to the classes, you only chose Maths because you are better on them? This is not a good reason. You have to study that which let you enjoy, flow...I know motivation is the best factor in learning. I promise you that I never had a better marks than in my career, in spite of I had many problems with the ######6 avoidance. Why? Because I love it.

Dude. I followed what I was good at academically.
The fact is I had no idea what I wanted to do when I was applying for uni. So I did what I was good at.
What you're good at and what you enjoy can be very different.

Yeah, I know, but the only thing I'm good at is math, and welding. But welding wont get me very far, even though I like it. Math is okay, and I'm good at it. I don't have very many options left. I can't do a whole lot besides math. And this math class is kicked my ass on the 2nd day. Im probably going to have to quit, and take some worthless class, and throw 14 grand down the drain.

What math is it? Calc? You say you're good in math, why not try accounting? I'm majoring in this... the math that goes into it isn't that difficult but you have to memorize a lot of concepts and equations. On the flipside it has a large job market and you can make really good money after a couple of years.

Its mainly proofs, abstract algebra, set theory, and analysis. It's upper division, so its not based on calculations. Its pretty weird stuff. We spend most of the time verifying simple mathematical theorems, but they aint so simple anymore.

Do you know if your dorm is planning on having or usually has dorm-wide activities? Those are usually fun and are an easy way to at least get your face recognized by others. Dorm rivalries are a lot of fun, too, and with little thinking involved

I don't think there's a whole lot, but ill keep an eye out. Though, for us avoidants, that's a nightmare.

Welding + Maths = Engineering.
I've just started an Engineering degree. I guess it helps that I like to build stuff.

I'm not trying to persuade you to quit. Just that there are other options. Talk to your tutor and/or student services, I wish I had.

It's not bad, though. You're basically guaranteed to be accepted by others as long as you support the dorm, so it's an easy way to beat the "omg they're going to hate me" mentality that keeps us in our rooms 8)
