laptop connect cards

Postby Parador » Wed Jul 29, 2009 8:48 pm

I'm seeing the ads on TV all the time. I'm thinking of getting one so I can take the internet with me everywhere. I already think I spend too much time online. I suspect this may be true of many people with avpd. Does anyone have one? They are offereing a free one from AT&T if I switch my cell over. It's really tempting.

Hi Parador,

Vodafone have a similar 'always on' thing here but I question it's worth for people like you and I. Do you not think that we could end up spending too much time on it, and using it like a 'crutch'? If I purchase a new PC, I will intentionally omit buying such a card, for the reason that I've just mentioned.

I just went up to Best Buy and looked at some netbooks. They're so small and light. It would be easy to carry everywhere.

I may have to get one. If I don't I won't be able to check my personal e-mail all day. I might have to go 2 whole days without being able to check it, because I like to travel a lot after work. There;''s not time to go home and check. There is no place in the town where I work that has internet, and I live 40 minutes from work. They don't want people doing personal e-mails from their work computer, so I don't see what else I'm going to do.

Of course I have to wait to see if I get fired from my job. If I do I won't have the money. It might be $60 a month for the service plan. I have nor checked into that detail yet. The netbok I was looking at was only $300.

Hmmm, if you're out a lot then I suppose it is a good idea to get one. This new type of laptop (called a 'notebook') is very thin, smaller, and lighter than a regular laptop - Was this the type that you were looking at? One more question my friend - Why on Earth would you be getting fired from your job?

They used to call them notebooks. Now they're calling them netbooks. Many even have a webcam. Looks like you can do most of the things you can do on a laptop. It doesn't have so much memory. But the battery life is actually longer.

I wrote about my job problems last week in a thread about my suspension:
Looks like they are really out to get me at work. My boss came in at about 1pm and told me I was being suspended for 30 days while they investigate further misconduct charged against me. I'm still facing discipline for allegedly threatening my no-good assistant with a bowl of pasta. This is some additional charge.

You're an enigma, Parador - I respect you a lot. Take one thing at a time though dude. Put the computer stuff aside and focus on saving your job. In this period, it's important to have a regular income, don't you agree? I intend to buy a computer soon, but I'm not going to tease myself by looking up various models yet until my financial situation is more known to me (I'm emigrating to England soon).

I have one vodaphone card since I´m on the sidecoast but I only uses it for a short time to look at the forum or download a radio program I like. It´s not very expensive. 30euros each month. It´s a three months contract.

But I hate my job and I love poking around the internet. I want my internet!

Is it a pretty fast connection? I can get internet on my phone but it is really slow. And the screen on my phone is so small that it's hard to read. It doesn't have a qwerty keyboard either, so it takes forever to type. That contract expires at the end of the year and I'm going to get something else.

You can't get that Vodafone thing over in the USA though, can you? I think that AT&T are the biggest company there. twistermind, 30 Euro per month is very expensive. It is possible to get broadband Internet for half of that price (wireless too).

On the phone it´s really slow and expensive. When my partner took the computer I have at home, for a repair; I tried to enter in the forum by my phone mobile and I couldn´t.
Well, it´s not as fast as I liked but tha´s because I´m on a place where there aren´t lots of antennas.
