There is no doubt that MAOis (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monoamine_oxidase_inhibitors) are far more efficient than SSRIs, SNRIs and Tricyclic antidepressants.
The reason they prescribe mostly ssris nowadays is that MAOIs are potentially more dangerous (hypertension etc.)
I'm on Parnate for almost 3 months now and i like it very much.
been on different ssris for 2 years and you really can't compare them to parnate.
Of course antidepressants are no panaceas and you should always seek psychological help additionally.
