For at least half my life, my style of dress was painfully dull, even slobby. I think I've posted about it before - two colors of slack pants, three colors of plain t-shirst, the same faded black hat that I wore so I didn't have to wash and do anything with my hair, blah, blah, blah. It got so bad that my hygiene suffered, as well. I would go for extraordinarily long periods of time without brushing my teeth, for example. That particular habit has led to other problems, as one might deduce.

Anyway, it's only been very recently that I completely changed my whole wardrobe and style. It's given me a little more confidence, though not enough to even begin to overcome my anxiety.

I'm not sure if I actually dress down, but I could do more to improve my appearence. I take it very seriously with hygiene. I would never leave the house without brushing my teeth and I wash my hair and shower everyday.
But there are other things I don't care about. My skin is really bad at the moment and I know it would be much better with contraception pill. But it's so expensive and I didn't figure out how to get a prescription in the Netherlands. And I don't really care.
I don't really have a haircut, but with long hair it looks quite normal. I had very short hair with long fringes some years ago. I liked it, but other people didn't. When my hair was growing long again I hated other people's reactions. Having short hair prevented me from being seen as a woman by every random idiot and it felt better at that time. Now I'm okay with long hair. If I had more money I would get regular haircuts. But at the moment it would mean eating less.
My clothes are not really to please other people, although it became less extreme the last year. With some more money I would do some shopping, but only buy things I like (which is usually not what most people like).
I used to be a make-up expert some years ago. But I stopped using that stuff gradually. First, I stopped using foundation because it kept me concentrating on bad things (my skin) and I only highlighted the positive things. But I stopped also doing this. Maybe I'll start doing that again.
One other thing I don't care about is weight. It's more healthy for me to accept myself and I don't think I look better when I'm more skinny. When I loose weight I look like a man with breast implants because my hips disappear completely.
I think I should care a little bit more about myself than I do at the moment.

I'll admit that I dress down a lot >.>; I don't get many haircuts (mostly because driving over 150 miles to the place I always get them at is a huge hassle, and because I don't really care about my hair, always going to look blah, so why bother) I haven't gone clothes shopping in years, I can't remember the last time I bought something new >.>; I don't really have any grasp of style or fashion, main thing I check before going out is if whatever I am wearing will make me either stand out or have people bug me >_>

I would like to know whether 'normal' people dress up because they like it or whether it is because they want to be popular.

@Darklight- I really don't know either. Its probably a mixture for most-herd mentality-look good to ensure propagation of ones D.N.A.
Yeah it all boils down to Darwinism really I suppose.

@DarkComrade-Afterall, whats the point of looking good anyway?

I suppose the main reason is for Sex/ relationship.

But that's the point I understand the least. Isn't it better if the potential partner is 'warned' for what he/she will get? If I had a relationship it would be almost unavoidable that my partner eventually sees me without make-up and during bad-hair days and wearing sweatpants. And for one-night stands it's not necessary to look good. I know that because I had some offers when I looked worse than now.
But I'm really not sure how much I want to pretend and how much of myself I want to preserve.
Isn't good looks meant to be an indicator of good genes? I'm sure my genes are perfect. I haven't been ill in 10 years. Maybe I'm infertile. I should have a check-up on that next time I see a doctor.

I have all sorts of "bum" clothes, most of it I don't even know where I got it from. I ironically have a lot of shirts with sports teams on them, which I know nothing about >.>; I think someone just dropped them in my dresser a few months back... I don't know. I have been tempted to buy some clothes for once, but I am too cheap/lazy/indifferent <.<.

I think the clothes that I wear only at home are more socially acceptable than some of the clothes I wear outside the house.
I've lived in a student dormitory during the summer semester with mainly erasmus students and I had the opportunity to see other people in their bum clothes and mine are definitely not the worst.

I buy clothes like once a year. I usually wear long shirts and long jumpers in order to cover up some scars on my arms.
