Read The Selfish Gene by Dawkins. He explains all of these things. It is true - the reason we want sex is because it results in our genes being passed on.

Our genes want us to have sex. We only want to have sex because our bodies have evolved to receive no greater ecstasy than sex. Therefore sex is highly desired by our mind and body. However, genes are what caused our body to evolve in the first place. Those selfish bastards.
