sort feelings

Does it happen to you to have difficulties to sort feelings?

I happen sometimes to have feelings in the body, but it's difficult to bring them to my mind.

For instance,

last year i lost a friend. Some weeks later the family invited me to her house, to take some of her books if i wanted to.
So i went, and chose one or two, and was relaxed and smiling with people there.
Then i walked out of the house, quietly, and suddenly i couldn't walk and couldn't see and nearly fell.
Emotions were too strong. I couldn't process them. Then body reacted.

Today, with job issue i feel overwhelmed by emotions but they are hard to sort.

Have you experienced that? To perceive some emotions but they don't come clearly to your mind?

Sometimes it is good to not assign thoughts to physical feeling, because that leads to labelling the feeling as good or bad. When you start labelling feelings as bad you start self shaming and other unhealthy thought processes. I am learning to just give the physical feelings space, and to allow them to play out physically on their own.

Yes I have trouble feeling and recognising emotions. I've got a bit better at this but it was very hard to do. When I started to concentrate more on my feelings I started getting emotional flashbacks, and they are AWFUL. I personally wouldn't recommend trying to release buried emotions without someone to help you.

I came across a nice way of categorising "good" and "bad" feelings - as "needs being met" or "needs not being met". I find this really useful because I forget/deny my needs and it reminds me that I'm allowed to have them. It's also easier to process the feeling because you can think about the need and how to get it met, instead of just beating yourself up for feeling "bad". Then you feel more in control too.

Yeah, I also have difficulty recognizing and dealing with emotions. It's our sensitive nature and how powerful our emotions are that makes it so hard to even know what we're dealing with.

Unsocial Butterfly has a good idea on a way to deal with them, since my psychiatrist basically recognized that problem in me and she said the same thing butterfly said. Observing your emotions and giving them some place helps in knowing exactly what's going on and in some cases, when it's anxiety, you can identify the symptoms and what part of you is affected.

It's a good thing to know in therapy too and it's preferable to explore more intense emotions in therapy too, in case they bring up other things, like avoidantpenny said. Penny also has a nice way of putting it, emotions being either needs that are met or not met.

Knowing a lot of this stuff can help in making it more bearable to deal with overwhelming emotions.

Thank you for the advices.

So in a way, you say it's good to accept body and emotion. Accept needs.

Today was a little quieter.
