I just thought I'd share this site as I find it pretty cool how there's a site dedicated to AvPD. It's got a lot of good info on it, namely the 'links' section. The links section has descriptions of other disorders as well as AvPD, and there's a comparison between generalized social phobia and AvPD. As well as personal accounts and stuff.
self dx. pdd-nos (level 1); covert narcissism w/ avoidant traits; social phobia; inertia.

It has links to groups though. But last I was there those groups were too moderated. I think they are all run by the same woman.
