Small things...

Postby Friedpiper » Sun Mar 19, 2006 4:35 am

Just wondering, are there small trivial things that AvPDs have in common?
i) Like are you a cat person? I love cats, i hate dogs...and im a guy...go figure... :?
ii) Do you like the colour blue? even though blue is the colour associated with saddness...I still like it
iii) Do you have a very negative state of mind when around people? Even when im stoned i do....kinda takes away from the buzz :(
iv) Are you the nicest guy/gal when your drunk, but still feel when your sober that people will think your not? Which is wierd cause alcohol makes alotta other people go wild...and im talking large amounts...
v) Do you have a slow metabolism? I do...mines like 3 times slower than my mates...I timed how long it took for drugs to kick in for me, when compared to my mates...i wonder if its accurate?
vi) Oh yea....do you feel vulnerable to the temptations of drugs? (i.e. feel you would be more easily addicted if you were to do them compared to other people) ...cause i definitely do...
vii) Do you like bright sunny days or cloudy/rainy days? I like the sun...
viii) Do you like slow-rythmic music, as apposed to fast paced music? (like the difference between trance and techno, or R&B and hip-hop) I love trance...its so trancey...however i cant hack R&B...
iix) Lastly, at school did you prefer soft sports (non-contact) to hard ones (contact sport) like soccer over rugby (or football for you americans)? Wierdly, i used to play soccer and tennis, although all of my 5 or so friends told me i was born to play rugby....

i) I love ctas, I have a cat; I sued to be a dog person but they require too much attention and they get on my nerves...people do find it strange that I'm a guy and I prefer cats over dogs
ii) I love the color blue...blue green/aquamarine is actually my favorite color
iii) it depends on the situation...sometimes negative, sometimes positive
iv) I don't get drunk often but when I do I'm much more open, talkative, sociable and funny; very few have ever said I wasn't nice drunk
v) I don't think I have a slow metabolism
vi) I don't think I have an addicitive personality which is weird cause like almost everyone in my family does
vii) I like sunny days but also get less depressed when it's cloudy and rainy cause then it seems like less people are out doing the things I want to be doing
viii) I like both...I like some slow music and also a lot of heavy metal
ix) I don't like playing any sports...I'm not the athletic type...I do love spectator sports though lol

i) I'm very much a cat person. I don't dislike dogs but cats are much better
ii) Blue is a nice colour, turquoise was my favourite colour for a long time
iii) I don't have a negative state of mind as such, but I sometimes judge others fairly harshly
iv) I'm a nice drunk but I've ended up in tears over small things on a couple of occasions. Maybe that's a girl thing
v) Couldn't tell you about my metabolism. When I was younger I ate quite a lot but I was never fat, so maybe.
vi) I've tried drugs before and never felt the need to try them again. But I do smoke a lot of weed. I wouldn't say I'm addicted, but it is something I worry about for the future
vii) I like the sun too. But I'm sure most people do
viii) I like fast music generally, although slow and moving ballads are nice too
iix) At school my favourite sports were tennis, rounders, cricket, netball.... so non contact sports. But i am a girl, so it's not like we ever tried rugby lol

i) I like both, but I prefer birds and rodents as pets overall.
ii) I like it, though not the best. I've never associated it with sadness though, the opposite, I associate it with the ocean and sunny skies.
iii) Not always, I have dissociative problems so around people my emotions are... complicated to explain! But it depends on the person and circumstances. I've always been happiest with my own company anyway.
iv) I don't drink.
v) Nope, absolute opposite. Other girls hate me for it!
vi) I have a very addictive personality, I've always known this and so nothing could ever tempt me into drugs. Besides, I knew I was screwed up already, I didn't need it made worse! I've never socialised outside school/work much so I've never had to deal with being offered/pressured.
vii) Both.
viii) I like most types of music, whether I prefer slow or fast depends on my mood.
iix) I've never liked any type of sport. I'm not interested in joining in other's games or exerting myself for them. Plus I'm crap.

I'd be surprised if we had many little things in common. Little things are very individual, I don't think they're typically dictated by personality type. But I've been wrong before

Maybe your right blacksheep.
I just thought maybe theres a personality type thats doomed from birth to be bullied.
I just made a couple connections like that alotta soft-hearted folk are cat people, and soft hearted folk are more vulnerable to being bullied, hence cat person = potential avpd...but maybe just extrapolated the connection too far.
I do hope your right blacksheep, because my theory is grim. But i have noticed everyone on this forum is super-nice which is a shame because nice people dont deserve to have avpd. We'd be much better off if it were the bullies who were afraid to open their mouths...

It sucks that people with AvPD are often pleasant and intelligent individuals yet think so little of themselves, because I know so many idiotic morons who think so much of themselves. I guess ignorance is bliss. I'm not always nice because it's my true inclination, though, I'm sometimes just too scared to be nasty lol.

I find it ironic that soft-hearted people would prefer cats in general, since cats are typically the independent ones and dogs the loving ones. You'd expect them to prefer dogs.

I always used to feel that some people were created to be punchbags for everyone else, still do quite regularly, but I think that's more the AvPD talking. Therapy helps with that sort of thing. I think it's true that people who are unhappy and bitter tend to be drawn to those they know they can exploit and bully, though. And when you're like us, you end up meeting ALL those individuals, like they can smell blood when you're around or something  It's happened to me so often I'm terrified to left alone with people I don't know or even walk down the street alone, I'm so convinced people will single me out for abuse.

Not sure if this makes any difference in my responses... I'm Avoidant Personality with strong Paranoid Personality tendencies.

i) I really really don't care for cats at all. I'm a huge dog lover! I have a sister that has only ever had cats --she's very narcissistic-- self centered in hurtful ways. She has brought my mom to tears many times and is not on speaking terms with me and another sister. So-- in my view--- I know a "cat person" that is not very nice at all.
Though, I see what you mean about many people that are kind hearted having cats.

ii) Blue is OK-- but I prefer green.

iii) I am not aware of any negative state while I'm around others-- it's after I've gone-- then the negativity really takes over in my mind.

iv) Yes, I have been told that I'm very nice and also fun while under the influence. Which then I see as a rejection-- since they complimented me in an unnatural state--- not the "real" me.

v) I suppose I could qualify as having a slow metabolism.... I have hypothyroid disease---- but am under weight-- isn't that odd?!

vi) No, I don't feel vulnerable to drugs.

vii) I do like sunny days much more than gray days.

viii) I tend to prefer slow music-- but sometimes, depending on my mood, I can tolerate R&B or heavy metal type music.

ix) I was never in sports..... never wanted attention on myself-- and don't feel comfortable in the "team" atmosphere anyway.

mariposa-- oops-- sorry, I forgot to sign in!
