Diet

Postby marshmellow » Sun Dec 18, 2011 6:32 am

There was about a year of time I was being extraordinarily anal about my diet. It was also a time I experienced some of the least amount of severity of add symptoms. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced something like this.

when i dont eat for a day or two i've noticed that i become short tempered.

as such, i try to take a multivitamin and consume at least a minimum of calories. seems to help some.

If I eat candies with artificial colours in them I tend to have a harder time focusing. I have a hard time believing it's coincidental, because it's happened several times. I don't often eat candy, so it's not really an issue though. Not sure if this helps answer your question. :?

Diet absolutely affects my moods. If I eat low carb or follow clean eating rules I am more focused, have more energy, control my moods better, less hunger, more stable blood sugar, and for some reason have less of the sinusitis/allergies that I CONSTANTLY have lately.

Not sure what the culprit(s) might be, but could be refined carbs, wheat, artificial sweeteners, artificial colors, or natural nutrients instead of fake ones from multivitamins.

Who knows. But it definitely makes a difference.

I find if I eat unhealthy things all day long, by the end of the day I'm extremely irritable. Eating a healthy, balanced diet with a lot of vegetables and protien usually helps with my irritability.
I need some meaning I can memorize,
The kind I have always seems to slip my mind

Yes your diet does have a big impact on the severity of your symptoms. Avoid colorants, flavor enhancers, sugars and preservatives a much as possible. I would strongly suggest that you make a eating chart with what you ate and how your behavior /focus was.

I've seen a (single) study where it said people with adult ADHD are three times more likely to develop dementia (with lewy bodies). I read a lot of things about prevention of Alzheimer's/Dementia and it seems that the Mediterranean Diet is accepted as the best. So, I can only be lead to the conclusion that a Mediterranean Diet would be the best eating choice for ADHD (as well as preventing dementia).
