Adults with ADHD?

Postby Angelhearted12 » Mon Jan 21, 2013 10:36 am

Do you find it hard to keep long term relationships? Do some people find you socially awkward?
It is easy enough to be friendly to one's friends. But to befriend the one who regards himself as your enemy is the quintessence of true religion. The other is mere business.

You're thinking of Asperger's, Angel. Most of the people I know with adult ADHD remind me of a young Michael J Fox, before the Parkinson's symptoms.

Or Phoebe on Friends.

At the outside weirdest, you might get a hyperspazz who's a little like this:

But we are very creative, tend to have extremely high IQs, and are at our best when we have to think on our feet. We usually don't stray too far from the quirky side of employable. We're only undermined by boring job/school settings where we have to sit still for hours, listen to some narc drone on and on about his god complex, or get micromanaged by some petty dictator with a pole up his hoop :lol:

We also tend to be a little more outspoken than your average bully or otherwise deluded person would prefer. Hence the ever-driving need to know where the back door is. This will sometimes affect our employability. But we bounce back like quicksilver :wink:

Relationships... oh yes... lots... :oops: Well, let's just say low dopamine levels make us super horny. If we mess up a relationship it's usually bc we cheat, tbh. Or we dive right into a week long nudie-fest with somebody like, say, a bipolar person in an extreme manic phase, or a 17-year-old parochial school student bc nobody else can match our sexual appetites. The trick is to keep our...um...affairs away from jealous lowlifes who believe that who we boink has any kind of bearing on our competence in the professional or domestic spheres.

So, if your question was Do we do stuff like this?

The answer is no.

Happy to help, Angel. :D

I've been to PF's Aspie forum looking for resources for my son.The group there seems really nice. If you know somebody who might have Asperger's, it's worth checking out. They're very helpful over there.

Lol Xena. You're talking more specifically than generally.

Relationships....umm. I'm weird. I think relationship habits deal a lot with personality over all else. I have no romance in me, plus I don't always follow standard social practices. I don't do romantic relationships, or at least anything resembling a traditional one. I did when I was younger and I never had difficulty staying in the relationship or not cheating. My last relationship lasted about 4 years, or so.

My family might call me socially awkward but everyone else would say I'm socially comfortable. My family sees the side of me that isn't putting in any social effort. Now, not being socially awkward with people doesn't mean they think I'm normal. Most everyone finds me weird/odd and a bit unsettling, yet likable.

@Xena:

on the contrary, I have ADHD and I have no desire for a relationship. Never have, and never plan on it. That might be the Aspie in me :P
Normal is overrated :D
