Joker and Harley Quinn dynamic

Postby Dulcet » Sun Apr 30, 2017 3:20 pm

We watched this movie Suicide Squad this morning because we both are sick. I am not really knowledgeable on Batman and all that stuff, but thought it was cute. I realized that Joker/Harley Quinn is an archetype of the ASPD (psychopathic realm)/Borderline relationship.

I googled and found this and now it's even worse.

I think the best strategy for Harley would be to ignore him. But she can't. I think he's more psychopathic than ASPD actually. I don't think people with ASPD get that drastic in relationships. It's more psychopathic. I understand it's a novel but I've seen similar behaviors for people in real life. What do you think this dynamic is about? Also, why are so many borderlines psychologists?

Oh yes, but heath was apparently unavailable. I've met both Heath and Jared, Jared doesn't have the charisma to play joker convincingly, or really front anything IMHO. What was up with the joker's teeth in this film, or were they always like that?

How did you met them? I think jared is nothing Original besides his good looks. lol

I heaven't read all comics, but there are different versions of the joker. Think the one jared portrayed is hobo-joker

I met Jared because my friend was dating him, then later at my old work, and Heath on a plane, he was seated next to me. He died shortly after that. Jared is Jordan Catalono. He's short. Heath was very tall.

I haven't read any comics, so it's like.. play along and watch type of deal. Hobo-joker? What other jokers are there and how does that work? So there is no consistency in story between certain comics?

I saw on this youtube clip that both jared Leto and heath ledger kind of went nuts playing the joker. I wonder why?

Yes, I believe that the Joker is a psychopath, but Harley isn't one for sure. The Joker manipulated Harley into doing whatever he wanted for his own needs and never really cared about her. Psychopaths are unable to establish a connection with other humans. They destroy everyone around them. This is what differentiates them from sociopaths. Psychopaths are born, sociopaths are made. Harley Quinn might be a sociopath because she simply fell in love with the wrong person and he scarred her for life. Throughout the film you can see how Harley has feelings for the Joker, but psychopaths can't do that. They can fake it for sure, and most psychos are real good at doing it since they learn throughout their lives, but for them it's impossible to actually have feelings for other people. The relationship between Harley and Joker is not cute at all. It is 100% one sided on Harley's part.

The only thing that disappointed me with Suicide Squad was who they had play Harley :/ Harley is supposed to be beautiful and sexy. Margot Robbie is neither of those things.

I think she looks horrible as Harley. I find blonde hair to be the ugliest hair color for women, and so if I'm going to like a blonde character/actress, they have to be exceptionally beautiful.

Then again, I'm highly attracted to a more regal type of blonde, like Lily Rabe as Nora and Sister Mary Eunice on AHS.

So that aesthetic wouldn't exactly fit Harley. I just think Harley is such an iconic character I was very disappointed with the actress chosen.

Also it didn't help her that this was the worst costume design Harley's ever had.
