Anger is a normal human emotion. It is a problem when it occurs too frequently, lasts too long, is harmful to self or others or leads to violence. Anger is not a nervous or mental disorder. Hence, it is not responsive to medical or psychological/psychiatric intervention.
It is highly unlikely that you doctor has received training in anger management.
I reccommend that you seek assistence from a professional trained in anger management. This professional should provide you with an assessment which determines your level of functioning in four areas: anger, stress, communication and empathy. A fifth category is Motivation to change.
Following this assessment, he or she should enroll you in a class to teach you skills in the areas which you score low or need the most help.
Your success in the class will depend on your investment in practicising the skills learned in the class.
