A Suvey to help Victims Become Survivors

Postby Tara32 » Mon Jun 20, 2011 2:17 pm

Hi,

My name is Tara O’Neill and I am a researcher at the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland. I would like to ask for your participation in a research study if you are a survivor of sexual trauma. The purpose of this study will be to investigate the effects of a broad range of traumatic events on later adult well-being. The research aims to promote the needs and interests of individual survivors and to improve service provision and responses to sexual violence and childhood sexual abuse.
The survey consists of several questions and requires approximately 30 minutes of your time. All your data will be treated as strictly confidential and analysed anonymously. You will not be asked to provide information that could be used to identify you. You can leave the survey at any point without giving reasons.
If you have any queries or questions please contact me at oneill-t2@email.ulster.ac.uk
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Your input into this survey would be very helpful. If you are over 18 years old and wish to participate, click on the link below:

Done :-)

Slight suggestion: a "not applicable" would have been useful sometimes... ie I ticked unemployed but then had to anwer what sort of employment I was in and an error came back when I left it blank. Same with if I could concentrate on school work.

Good questionnaire though :) Good luck

Hi Tara,

Have you looked at the new ideas for DID in the Proposed DSM-V? That might give you some ideas on how to adjust some of your questions.

Hi all,

Thank you soo much for taking the time to do my questionnaire it is greatly appreciated and your contribution is really helpful for the success of research into this area. For far too long this has been a taboo area and I hope I can make a difference even in a small way.

Cheers again
Tara

P.s A non-applicable is a really good suggestion and I'll keep this in mind for the future. I think the Q is asking you to categorise what group you belonged to before unemployment or which group of occupations you seen yourself to belong to.

P.ps If you delete your cookies and ok it you should be able to complete it again if not, let me know and I'll send you another link.

P.pps Yeah the stuff on DID is really interesting on the new DSM and it's definitely something to keep in mind for the future. The questions on the questionnaire on dissociation are from a standardised scale so I'm sure these will be adapted in the future to incorporate all the new issues to meet the criteria for DID.

Again thank you all for your comments as these are soo helpful for this and the future of other research in this area.

Hi and thanks to everyone who has read and completed my research and my survey. Also if anyone knows any other members who may be interested in this research please please please direct them to this survey/link as the more responses gained the more impact it will have on those services that don't respond or help in the way they should. It will also help in making victims voices and issues to be taken seriously and responded to in the right way.

Thanks soo much in advance guys and please feel free to contact me if you need any other information.

Hi Tara,
Thank you for your research. The only problem I had with the survey is that it wouldn't accommodate abuse from multiple sources (if only we could have done the same as the survey :| ). I don't know if that is a crucial question but thought I'd mention it anyway. Thanks.

Thank you soo much livingwell for taking the time to read and complete my research and thank you for the comments made. I agree with your comments about only being able to choose one perpetrator, it is not ideal and not flexible to include a number of perpetrators. This was the format of the questionnaire used and so, I couldn't ammend it but I fully agree with you and I will definitely take this on board for the future of this research and any other research I am involved in.

Thank you again, your contribution and comments are very much appreciated.

Kind regards
Tara
