Inappropriate laughter.

Postby Crawling » Mon Jun 02, 2014 7:01 am

Does anyone do this? I do it a lot and it upsets some people which makes me feel bad.

Plus people look at me funny and move away like I'm going to axe murder them at any moment.

I'll give examples when I was at my grandads funeral a voice appeared in my head saying imagine everyone's reactions if I laughed and the next thing I know I was laughing and had to leave the service. I am very upset over that.

Another example is I was on the phone to someone and they came across my mean ex and he was lying in a ditch covered in his own bodily fluids and couldn't remember his name when my friend called as he was so high. I couldn't stop laughing.

I know it's wrong to laugh at these things and I'm not a mean person. I just can't seem to help it.

Hello, Crawling. I know what it's like to laugh at inappropriate times. While I've never laughed at things like funerals or anything, I've laughed at scenes of violence in movies and video games (I hope that counts!). While I do know that these things are fake, I tend to laugh at scenes of violence at times. It's kind of awful, to be honest because sometimes it will reflect itself when people around me are talking (seriously) about bad things that have happened to people. Like you, I'm not a mean person at all. It can be pretty embarrassing, too.

Thank you aeli very much for replying. I don't really have many friends because of this as when some misfortune befalls them I laugh. So I only have friends who either think my inappropriate laughter is funny which some do my husband and best friend just laugh at me. Or have thick skins and can take it.

I don't hang out with people who judge me for it. But like you I'm definitely not mean in fact my friends tell me off because if I know someone is in trouble I generally pull out all the stops to help and make myself I'll by worrying over them.

Thank you it feels good to know I'm not alone.

Hey there! Sorry for the semi-late reply. But I understand what it's like to do that. Sometimes people stare at me when it happens or some of them, like you said, have thick skins and can handle it. It feels good that I'm not alone, too. c:

I laughed at both my grandmother's funeral and right after my sister's. Felt horrible about it both times. Other people didn't seem to take it badly though. My granddad said he was glad people didn't take my grandmother's death too hard.

I sometimes am told I have odd expressions at times too...

I have done this as well, or even just said things completely inappropriate. It's definitely sinking when you see the other person's reaction and it doesn't jive with your own. :?
