Police visited me after posting on psychforums

After posting on psychforums in this index the police visited me early morning.

They knocked at the door and when I opened, three men identified themselves as detectives and mentioned the name of this forum and a username.

They told me that they were concerned because they said that I had written that I worked with kids. (It's worth mentioning that I'm fairly certain I never made any comment about any problem or situation, or about participating in any illegal activity -- or any other specifics about my life at all.)

They wanted me to sign a consent form and to copy my computer's hard drive to search it for child pornography.

I told them that I wasn't willing to allow any search of my property and would not answer any questions.

They insisted several times and I repeated myself.

They told me that if I didn't consent to a search they would refuse to give me a clean criminal record check if I applied for one.

I refused to submit to the search or to answer any questions and they eventually left the doorstep.

In the week preceding their visit I received a number of friendly private messages asking me to chat about pedophilia, and others asking me if I knew any links to child pornography. Some of the messages came from newly registered members, others from members with many posts. I told them all in so many words, 'not interested'.

In terms of PF reporting to the police, as the pink notice says, we will only report illegal activity. As to whether any police are watching this site and doing their own investigation I don't know but without PF input (which there would not be in the absence of illegal activity) they would not be able to have access to the information they needed. In the absence of illegal activity I don't know what happened in your case but wanted to clarify where PF stands and reiterate the content of the pink notice.

It is unfortunate that people trying to get help and support with any non normal desires are spied on and targeted, and, must only serve to keep people from getting help and support. I note substantially more people vew these threads than participate in them. Could these be people wanting help and too scared to ask for it? Is that not a very dangerous situation, and, possibly the kind of situation they claim they work to avoid?

My vew since I started looking into this, is that places like this and VP can serve as a first line in preventing harm. Services like Stop It Now are post-harm services, unless people find themselves in places like this. I have been able to refer 2/3 people to such services since on here since I have been coming. So my activity on here could be described as preventative, the above might be described as adding to the problem.

They want to get on 4chan if they want to snag some active law breakers.

They've been on 4chan for years.

Seems rather very odd, according to your profile you have made 7 posts and this one is the only one in this section. Unless I am mistaken.

Also the police can't refuse to give you a clean criminal record check if you have not been caught and convicted of any wrong doing that would be against your human rights.

Human rights mean f*** all in the US and UK.

True James, but unless you have been convicted for something you can't be added on to the DBS list as far as I know.

Also if you have no criminal record and an employer for example asks to do a police vetting check then without being arrested, charged or convicted of anything they also surely can't give any information suggesting otherwise as that would be libel.

Have a look at the snowden reports then see what they can or can't do. The DBS is the official record. There are unofficial ones and ways to discriminate based on them.

Of course, more likely is the police just lying to the person they're threatening in order to coerce consent for their searches and seizures.

Much easier than falsifying criminal records or maintaining shadow records or whatever else you're talking about.
