Trouble relating???

Postby Graham88 » Tue Feb 04, 2014 11:13 pm

Hello All,

I have been wondering recently, do any of you have OCD AND difficulty maintaining relationships with other people?

I suppose I should probably expand on my question. I have this weird thing where the moment I get close to someone or into a relationship with them, I immediately begin obsessing over how to get out of the relationship or that there may be something wrong with them or it. Has anyone else experienced that? Is it part of OCD or is it just me?

Hi Graham,

Have you heard of ROCD? its a distinct subtype of ocd http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Relationsh ... e_disorder

I have briefly seen ROCD mentioned on this forum, and I looked at the link you offered (thanks, btw), but I guess I'm having a difficult time separating which thoughts or traits are part of my disorder and which ones aren't. I feel like I can't trust my mind.

rocd is tricky, bc often there are legitimate issues in a relationship that may end one. but if youre noticing the same pattern across all relationships, it may be worth going in to speak with someone or to think about medications.

typically people with ocd experience ocd across more than one domain in their lifetime, so if there are other areas that may be an indicating variable as well.

try taking a look at this ybocs checklist and see if you identify any other areas from current or past that stand out http://healthnet.umassmed.edu/mhealth/Y ... cklist.pdf
