Rhinotillexomania?

Postby Platypus » Fri Apr 29, 2011 4:25 am

No posts on rhinotillexomania? How can that be?

Does anyone want to fess-up with me, and raise their snotty finger in the air?

Perhaps it's kind of gross, but it feels good.

I try not to pick once it bleeds, but I want to win the war against the dreaded Captain Snottus and his booger army.

Supposedly there are health benefits:
Wikipedia wrote:Friedrich Bischinger, a lung specialist at Privatklinik Hochrum in Innsbruck, claims that nose-picking combined with nasal mucus eating is beneficial for the immune system.
No diagnosis, lots of opinions, and a bunch of issues that I haven't quite figured out.

I got a whole fixed step-by-step plan, needs to be executed at least once a day... Yeah, I guess I am quite a neurotic...

I think of it as a function of the body. I don't see anything wrong with picking. I think the real issue is the taboo about it. People act like it's a big deal to be seen doing it. As long as there are boogers, people will pick their noses. Trying to make people stop will not help. All it will do is cause unnecessary shame. Now we laugh at Kellogg and Graham for their role in causing unnecessary shame and the failure of their inventions to serve their futile purpose.

Dude,
This is great! I do this! I pick my nose and eat my boogers. I've been doing it since I was a kid. I just don't do it in public. My husband even knows about it and is cool with it. I was caught once by a teenager. Talk about a mortifying experience. Luckily it was by a teenager. I just threatened to beat him up if he told anyone. We're still cool. I have dematillomania and just never connected the two.

My advice! Keep eating your boogers, just don't do it in public. I hardly ever get sick. I truly believe it is because of this. I'm an exnursing student. Trust me I can scientifically prove that repeated exposure reduces the likelyhood of infection when it comes to most of the things that end up in your nose. The problem is when people don't wash their hands enough and then pick their nose and eat it, your adding other things to the mix and contaminating your nose. Also, your nose is a mucous membrane that protects your sinuses and lungs from pathogens, not your stomach. If your nose is being dried out by excessive picking, then that's a problem. Also, if you notice nasal polyps start forming (I have them), then you might need to slow down. But all in all, if you are careful and avoid damaging the nose, there is no medical reason that I know of to not pick your nose. As for the millions of acne scars everywhere on my body...well I can't explain away those. Good Luck to you!
The gods had condemned Sisyphus to ceaselessly rolling a rock to the top of a mountain, whence the stone would fall back of its own weight. They had thought with some reason that there is no more dreadful punishment than futile and hopeless labor.
