It really depends on the individual. There are so many variations and permutations that go into the final result of personality and behavior. Just like with other PD's, no two people with HPD will behave exactly the same.

With regard to Millon's HPD subtypes, the Disingenuous HPD would seem to be most likely to be manipulative and controlling, whereas the Appeasing HPD subtype would not.

Specifically, quoting from Wikipedia, Histrionic Personality Disorder

"Theodore Millon identified six subtypes of histrionic personality disorder. Any individual histrionic may exhibit none or one of the following:

Appeasing: features of dependent personality disorder and obsessive-compulsive personality disorder

Infantile: features of borderline personality disorder

Theatrical: overtly dramatic, romantic, and attention-seeking

Tempestuous: negativistic (passive-aggressive) features

Vivacious: the seductiveness of the histrionic mixed with the energy typical of hypomania

Disingenuous: features of antisocial personality disorder"

So with respect to rating for control and manipulation one could rate the subtypes:

Disingenuous/highest liklihood of being controlling and manipulative/ 6
Vivacious 5
Tempestuous 4
Theatrical 3
Infantile 2
Appeasing /least liklihood of being controlling and manipulative/ 1

also Important to also consider the inverse, i.e., many HPD's are they themselves victims of control and manipulation:

Appeasing /most likely to be a victim/6
Infantile 5
Theatrical 4
Tempestuous 3
Vivacious 2
Disingenuous/ least liklihood to be a victim/ 1

Anyhow, just my interpretation; others are welcome. :) Recovering or some self-aware HPD's would naturally be excluded from being controlling and/or manipulative, or victims of same.
