Alters and handwriting?

Postby lifelongthing » Sat Sep 22, 2012 7:59 pm

So I have a quick question for you all: Do alters always have different handwritings? We all seem to (well, at least the ones that know how to write). But I can't say for sure cause I haven't seen everyone's. It's just something I've been wondering about. I always have a dozen questions about how systems work :? Oh well.. Anyone know?

I have more 'different types of handwriting' than I have known alters. It's funny when you take a full journal & flip through the pages real fast. I find it interesting that if I want a particular alter to come out, & I'm having a difficult time making that happen, I sometimes journal in her handwriting & am actually successful. I can write in her handwriting but she can't write in mine.

Two of the 3 alters that I have seen, have very beautiful handwriting. Especially considering that they are men, and most men's handwriting looks like chicken scratch. They are all left handed except for one, I believe... My boyfriend's handwriting is very hard to read... But it's kinda nice looking for a guy.

Actually my kids all write with their Left Hand even though I only use my Right. I am told that when we were little we were left handed but our mother forced us to do everything with our right hand to be normal :(

But yes our handwriting is different between them all

We all have different handwriting. I have pretty normal printing that's sometimes slightly sloppy sometimes slightly sloppy sometimes slightly sloppy sometimes sli- slip- slop- Cassie, please. Anyway, I usually print and have the most "relaxed yet readable" handwriting. Cassie presses down hard on pencils and pens (something I used to do when younger, too), and writes in big, little-kid printing letters. Rain writes in cursive usually. Kat writes in all capital letters and also presses down hard on the paper. L.C. writes in all capital letters as well, but she has really tiny writing. Luna- you know, I'm actually not sure how Luna writes yet, or at least I can't recall right now. Um, who else? Oh, yeah. Rebel writes a lot like Kat, but mixes up capital letters with lowercase whenever she feels like it. Dallas has a barely-readable messy scribble, and Damone has a slightly-legible chicken-scratch. I don't know how Marie writes... Um, who else? I think that's all I know. (Sorry if I'm kinda rambling, I'm a bit "fuzzy" right now). Oh yeah, and Shay writes in hard-pressed, printed letters that "mirror" the sign language letters (so her "L's" are always capitalized, other letters are always lowercase, etc), and she doesn't write in a straight line. Unless she's writing song lyrics from memory. Then her handwriting is a fluid mixture of printing and cursive.

That's way neat. I gotta try that some time, I think it might work with Leo at least! :D

Actually my kids all write with their Left Hand even though I only use my Right. I am told that when we were little we were left handed but our mother forced us to do everything with our right hand to be normal

Sorry to hear that :| We used to be able to write with both of them, but I can't remember being able to use both ever so I guess maybe one of us can do it.. Dunno.

(Sorry if I'm kinda rambling, I'm a bit "fuzzy" right now).

No you were really helpful. For us Anastasia has writes like anyone else who's just learned to write. It not legible to anyone who hasn't had practice reading the way she writes. She sometimes writes the letters the wrong way and stuff like that and she has very "sharp" letters. Our 6 y/o (made just a couple of months after Ana) is the same way but has very "fluid" letters. Very few actual edges (so an A is more like a top half circle with a curved line in it etc). Elisa has good writing but presses down very hard when she writes and some of her letters are quite sharp as well. Cassie has very beautiful tiny handwriting that tilts a lot to the left. Lin usually writes in all capital letters, which are small and pretty, but sometimes write in a style that is a mix of "normal" handwriting and some cursive letters. It's so pretty in fact that Nin used to try to copy it before she knew she had DID and didn't realize how she could write that pretty when she didn't remember, and now has a similar handwriting style with only a couple small differences   13(?) y/o has very beautiful cursive handwriting. Leo has the same sort of handwriting as someone we knew very well growing up who we were very close to. Mine is sloppy and big, even when I try to make it pretty all I can do is make it smaller - it still doesn't look very good haha. The 18 y/o writes normal letters mostly like Nin's writing but a bit bigger and a bit sharper, but she looks pretty similar (which makes sense since she's made to sign papers and go to meetings and such, amongst other things). The others I don't know, really... This was kinda fun writing out :P Sorry it got so long :P :)

Yeah - that's true for us too! It can be kind of fun to look through the texts to see who you think wrote what :P

Most of my alters "sign" their name at the bottom of texts they send, but you can tell them apart sometimes without it.

Cassie doesn't "sign" her name at the bottom. But she does only text in lowercase letters, doesn't used any punctuation, and tends to have some spelling mistakes.

Kat swears a lot, both when she talks and when she texts. Usually, if the f-bomb is dropped more than once, people know it's Kat who's texting. She used to text in all-capital letters just like she writes, but people kept thinking she was yelling at them or something, so she's mostly stopped (mainly just to not have the annoyance of explaining that she's not yelling or mad at THEM).

Rain uses correct punctuation, capitalizes everything that should be (so no lowercase "i's"), has perfect spelling, and usually texts how she speaks, so it has a very "formal" feel/read.

L.C. and Luna, well, you can usually tell when they're texting because most of the time, they start bantering back and forth with each other playfully and leave the receiver of the text message completely lost and confused. You can also kinda tell it's them because they'll swear more than me, but not drop as many f-bombs as Kat does. They also don't care whether a letter's capitalized or not, and they don't care about punctuation (except obvious stuff like periods and commas).

(Trying to think of who else has texted from my phone...)

Rebel's kinda like a mix of me and Kat. She swears more than I do, but not as much as Kat does.

Dallas usually texts things like "man", "bro", and "dude". And he'll usually text something dumb that he thinks is cool, like a comeback he comes up with or song lyric spoofs or something.

Damone texts more than he speaks, but he still doesn't text much. And he has his signature greeting of "Hey (blank)", and that's all he says until (blank) responds. He'll also text things like "man", but unlike Dallas he never says "bro", and doesn't say "dude" nearly as much.

That's everyone I can think of who's texted on my phone for now... There's probably been more but I can't remember right now. Oh yeah! "Hannibal" texts just as he speaks, and is like Rain- perfect spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc. Now I think that's it. :D

My boyfriend texts with punctuations. I've never gotten any text messages from the others, but I have gotten facebook messages from them. the gatekeeper uses a lot of big and complicated words that my boyfriend would never use. The protector will use curse words, while my boyfriend wouldn't. I also get responses faster because my boyfriend doesn't really know how to type while they know a bit more. The little's messages are very playful. And one of the others writes like they speak (they have an Irish/British accent) so it can be a little tough to read.
