DID is said to be florid or overt when people who are not highly trained and experienced therapists can recognize it. The alters don't hide; they may even announce themselves and insist on being recognized. This is in contrast to covert DID. Most of us live most of our lives in a condition of covert DID. Often, our DID is so covert that it is even concealed from our host identity.

Mine was EXTREMELY Covert for 50 years - where the many parts that acted as Hosts did not know of it. Once they did, they were removed as host. But now many parts are overt as heck!
Florid is often described as: florid and dramatic overt manifestations of dissociative identity disorder.
There is also structural differences:
"(3) patients who recovered from dissociative identity disorder (DID) have more hippocampal volume that patients with florid DID"
