Reflection in the mirror

Postby watcheroflights » Fri Dec 02, 2011 10:25 pm

When you look into a mirror what do you see? A reflection of yourself or do you see alters?
Do you get a since of seeing male or female? Young or old?
For me I have always felt the reflection was somewhat alien. At times I get a sense I should be seeing a image of a female or a child. The body seems strange at times over sized or strong feelings or need to see it as small. These strong sense or feelings changes from each time to time that I look at myself in the mirror.
Also I feel sometimes as a third person when seeing my image in the mirror.
Also do others see movement like someone walking by or out of the corner of your eye when viewing yourself? I may just be a little on the crazy side but was just wondering if others deal with this too? :|
Best Regards to All

Brandic
Since I was a child I have seen people or thinging moving out of the corner of my eye.
As a child and young teen I thought they were ghost. As I grow older I came to realize it was the others playing games to get me to notice them.In my early to mid- twenties it drove me crazy.
I hate the feeling that someone is standing right at my shoulder, very near,so near I can almost feel them breathing on my neck.
As to looking in the mirror I try hard no to pay the image a lot of notice or do not look into my eyes a lot.It wierds me out.

Thomas

That is so interesting. I thought I was just halluinating!! The way you see it is very different - who knows which is the truth for me.

And yes, with the mirror stuff. I get shocked everytime I look in the mirror. I never expect to see what I see. I always expect to see someone else.

When I look in the mirror, I'm always too amazed by my heterochrome eyes and three sharp canines to actually look at the rest.

I am very uncomfortable with how I look, in every way. When I am feeling small, I feel like I look different, but I don't know what this look is. What I mean to say is, I know a lot of you have alters with distinct physical appearance separate from your own, and while I think this is true in my case as well, I don't know what that look is.

When I feel smaller, I wish I had a magic mirror to show me what I REALLY look like, cuz I'm curious. I feel like my mirror is broken and isn't showing me the right thing, but I've never seen the right thing, so how can I be sure?

I don't know if anybody can relate but yeah I've always experienced things in my peripheral vision and thought I had a six sense. I always feel like someone is watching, the only time I feel fully relaxed is when I'm alone because my alters are free to do whatever too.

I have always thought that pictures do not represent me so I've struggled with liking any picture of myself, I also spend so much time looking in the mirror because what I see consistently changes nothing too drastic but my face shape and eyes and general structure of the face seems different depending on what alter is fronting etc. I don't have a consistent image in my mind of what I look like ( I actually cannot describe what I look like because it always changes. I also had this weird thing of not recognising any of my family - as a kid waiting for my mum to pick me up at school I used to look for a blonde lady, and was always uncertain if it was her until we communicated. It's like I can pick the bold features and recognise someone but my mind can't piece together a total image of a person because different alters perceive and act in different ways. Still to this day I cannot conduct a mental image of someone cause there's like 5 me's with 5 ideas of what someone looks like.

The biggest struggle for me with did is coping with the different perspectives on everything - nothing is consistent or stable like singletons have

Very interesting, I always see things in my peripheral vision, I never thought it could be them, I spend so much time in the mirror, not for vanity reasons but damn this is what I look like? What's even weirder is ask me to describe my face and I couldn't my features seem so different depending on so many factors.

Oh my yes, we would describe our perception of others very similarly, what we have so far referred to as facial blindness; we hadn't, until we read the above, considered it could be related to our multiplicity! Wowsers.

The mirror is not our friend. Often, even looking at our hands, for instance, can make us feel dysphoric beyond our normal transgender dsyphoria).
