Where Did you get your SCID-D?

Postby Greg » Sun Oct 20, 2013 10:41 pm

Hello everyone!

My name is Greg. I figured i'd give a short introduction about myself and also ask for help as well.

I am strongly convinced that I have DID due to the fact that everytime I read about it, or everytime I read other peoples experiences with the disorder I get that "aha" moment.

Many of the questions that are in the DES are questions I have been asking myself my entire life.

My problem is, I currently have no income but am covered by the Gulf Coast Center which provides me with limited free prescriptions and appointments with a psychiatrist.

From what I have been doing on my own research (Searching the ISSD database, etc.) It seems as though you need money to begin treatment for this sort of thing or to even get an SCID-D done.

I am currently diagnosed with Uneffeciated Schizophrenia and have been diagnosed with ADHD and major depression in the past.

I am in the Houston Metro area.

I would like to know for sure if I have DID or which dissociative disorder I have.

How did some of you get your SCID-D done? Is it possible to get it done without money?

How about ongoing therapy? Has anyone found low cost or free ways to get ongoing therapy as well?

Thank you in advance

-Greg

I have my health insurance which I do need to pay for. I went in therapy at 'the' facility where everyone from around here goes. I did a scid-d there but it turns out it wasn't even used to diagnose me. I've been in treatment there for years, before and after diagnosis, and aside from the insurance and money to get me there, it doesn't cost me anything. I think it depends on which country you're in. You could try to ask your psychiatrist about it, tell him/her some of the experiences you've been having, see how they react to it. But usually psychiatrists are for prescribing meds so I don't know if that's your best option.

For the professional who does the SCID-D assessment, the SCID-D requires extensive experience and training to learn how administer, and hours to complete. This includes 1-2 hours spent interviewing you, then analysis of the interview, then a follow-up session with you to give you the results. So it is not reasonable to expect to get this at no cost.

As for how to find someone who administers it local to you, consult the ISSTD listing of member therapists, and call some of them.

I have tried that, they are all very expensive. Understandably so as it takes many many years of study and the hours that you are speaking of.

I am just trying to find a way to get properly diagnosed and treated in my current situation.

After what I have been through in the past 8 months or so I am scared to find employment and would be more for finding employment after I am getting therapy and medication.

I am just trying to find a way to get help for this.

Actually, psychotherapy is disgustingly inexpensive. Getting a SCID-D assessment costs less than many medical diagnostic procedures. Ever had x-rays taken? Abdominal ultrasound? Blood tests for tumor markers? Blood tests for liver disease?

Do you have any idea what cancer diagnosis and treatment costs? Even after a "cure" there remains surveillance. Psychotherapy does not come close.

Welcome here :)

I had the SCID-D test done under my health insurance. You say yours cover a psychiatrist, have you asked if they would be able to cover a therapist that could assist you with this if you have your psychiatrist agree it is necessary?

If you don't have the money, in the end I don't think it matters if it's more or less expensive than something else which you can also not afford. Is there any way you could save up the money for it? Create extra income for a shorter time period?

I hope you're able to reach your goal :)

Thanks for the input guys,

Turns out the only way this is going to happen is with money. Hopefully my old employer hires me back and I can get on obamacare while I still can.

I hope you're able to get the money together.

I hope your employment goes okay. I saw your other post, which was worrying. Remember that it can really help to listen to your selves and how they feel about it.

Thinking of you.
