Alters that run/Alters that hide

Postby Patience » Sat Oct 05, 2013 10:36 pm

Does anyone have alters that run? That run away I mean? That decide they no longer want any responsibility and run away from home, much like a teen would?

And does anyone have alters that hide? What does it mean when an alter comes out, and hides the body, stops using the computer, shuts things down and attempts to just...hide? Anyone have theories?

Our one little, Tia used to hide from our ex-boyfriend. Once she hid for 2 hours
It took a while and our ex had to gain her trust first before she'd stop trying to hide from him.
The first time he managed to get her out of her hiding space, he covered her with a blanket and waited patiently for her to come out. When she wouldn't come out, he brought out our pet ferret and played with him for a while. Eventually Tia saw he wasn't a threat (because he was nice enough to cover us with a blanket and leave us alone, instead of say, pulling on our legs trying to get us to come out) and over time actually grew quite close with him.

Yeah, we got both. It's actually kind of funny because there are no other (outside) people living with us. So it's like, what is there to run/hide from?

The one who runs away runs in the middle of the night and takes off driving most of the time because walking sends her into flashbacks.
Thankfully, it's usually the middle of the night, and someone'll watch and take us back so we're back in time for normal life.

Most everyone is starting to learn now that we don't have to pretend we don't exist anymore, but up until pretty lately, most everyone did the whole 'pretend we don't exist' bit. 'Course, we still got a couple who get freaked out and turn everything off.

But the one who hides staked out all the hiding spaces in our new apartment, first thing. Basically, somebody else in our system thinks that she didn't feel safe. They figure she was stuck in a flashback or something.
Somebody else in our system made a thread about this alter: http://www.psychforums.com/dissociative-identity/topic106582.html

Yes we have people who want to run away from here. It takes a constant daily struggle to not let them.

Thanks everybody...Michiru, I really connected with that thread you posted and am planning on commenting on it, because it's really striking a chord with me.

The Collective--this sounds exactly like what's going on with my SO.

Family of 3, little Tia sounds so cute! I'm glad she was able to come out from hiding.

There's someone who has wanted to get the hell out of here for a very long time. We want to head out to Asia, Tibet maybe, get out into the spiritual end of the world where temples are cut into the mountainside and daily life consists of meditation, simple chores, community work and wild silence. There's a desperation to go, it hurts when I think too long about it. I ran once, years ago, down to the other side of the country to the Cornish coast for just over a month, but there were less people to damage then.

We shut down as well when things overload.

I often feel this way too. I want to get a fresh start on this life, so we can leave behind the fear and pain and trauma that holds us back from being normal people. A simple life surrounded by nature is the most healing thing, and our system needs healing. The two just belong together. One day I will succeed in getting this system out of this place. We're waiting for just a few final things before we can finally pack up and shed this old skin. -Adrian

Family of 3, that is well stated. About leaving behind the fear and the pain. There was no fear or pain created here, but I think that his memories were starting to seep through at his triggering time of the year, and he is trying to outrun the pain. Although no matter how far he runs, he never will.

I'm really scared for him....
