Synesthesia?

Postby chococat159 » Sat Oct 05, 2013 10:20 pm

Does anyone else on here have synesthesia? We do, and it's really woven into the system.

If you don't know what synesthesia is, it's a neurological condition where the senses are connected when they normally aren't. People with synesthesia may see color when they hear music, for example. Or they may associate personalities or genders with numbers or letters. There are tons of different types, though, and it's a fascinating condition if you look it up a little.

Anyway, there are several different types in our system. I have a lot, and so does the original host. Some alters have a couple types, while others have none at all.

It impacts the entire system though because all of us in here have an "element" that represents our personality as an alter. Some have just one, some have two. Alexa's is fire and then dark purple velvet. Mine is a type of metal. Love's is emerald green. Everyone in here has one, and I know this is the synesthesia making this happen. It'd be personality to color/texture.

Does anyone else have synesthesia, and if so, does it impact your system like it does ours?

I have it, but I am a singleton support person.

All words and letters have a corresponding color. Also, my months and days of the weeks are colored and stacked in order. My months go from right to left on an upward incline. My days also go from right to left and slightly downhill.

I don't have it (or at least I don't think so) but all our crew have colours like you described, and it makes it easier to know who's out or around by what colour they show us. I've always been fascinated by synesthesia and think in many respects it can be so beautiful - I imagine the joy of listening to music but with colours which is like watching art/ballet. But I know from a TV programme if you have a horrible taste each time you see something/a letter those times can be unpleasant.

Patience, interesting you talk about your months and weeks like that, Our days in a week go from left to right and when we have something booked it turns grey so we know to think carefully before booking to do something else. Our months are on like a circle but with no centre, I don't think it's coloured but we can zoom in if we need to. Just thought it's normal to picture weeks/months etc and thought this was my way, now I'm intrigued as to how everyone else sees time.

I'm not sure why my days and months go from right to left. You'd think they'd go the other way, like a calendar.

And Sunday is orange/yellow, Monday is white, Tueday is light yellow, Wednesday is green, Thursday and Friday are both brownish color, and Saturday is a brownish red. Been that way since I was a kid.

I have a type of pain synesthesia. If I observe someone getting hurt or see a cut or graze, particularly if it is on my daughter or an animal, I can get an electric shock sensation that goes through my torso. I first experienced it when watching a fishing programme and they were holding the fish through the gills, and I kept getting this mad zapping. I was never sure if it was a type of synesthesia but I emailed a woman who was researching the phenomena at her university and she confirmed it. I often feel textures as well; sometimes if I see dust or smoke I can taste it, and often struggle to breathe. Chalkboard dust in particular.

We have it...with pain as well, but get flashes of light instead of the pain. So say I get cut, I know I got hurt from the light, but won't feel it till later, like when I was weeding, I saw a bright flash of light, and knew I got injured that it'd hurt later, so I looked at my hand for the injury. Also, we get it from loud/sudden noises or sounds at times, like a chip bag crinkling is undulating waves of pink then red(depending on volume), or a loud bang is a bright white light. The others may communicate with color overlays as well(like glowing thoughts). Fun stuff, no? :D

I have it for very specific things. One of the most annoying is when I hear fabric and wood or some types of synthetic things are brushed against each other (I'll never ever use a wooden coat hanger)- There's a bad smell and taste to it. I get it with other sounds too, but I can't recall which, usually random things.

Different parts seem to react differently to it, although it's hard to tell since it doesn't happen super often. The child-like one definitely reacts more than the others though, even to some fabrics rubbing against stuff that the smell wouldn't normally come with for other parts. Most likely because the effect happened much more intensely as a child, so she retained that I suppose.

Re: Synesthesia? VISUAL-TACTILE

Postby instantcoffee16 » Mon May 16, 2016 6:01 am

Hey! I don't know where else to post this. Anyway, I'm not sure if this qualifies as synesthesia, or if it is something else entirely, but I figured that maybe some of you could give me some insight. Anyway, here it is. I can feel with my eyes. Like, I can look at something, and feel its texture. It's natural- I don't have to think about it for it to happen. I can do it through screens (not cartoons obviously) but this I have to focus on. Essentially, I can scan a room, and feel like my fingers are gracing everything, too. I am aware that this may not be synesthesia, because it's not abstract (ex. see couch, feel sandpaper). If anyone has ANY insight at all regarding this, please let me know. I can't find anything on the internet for this, and it's been freaking me out my entire life.
