More on Time Loss/Re: Host?

Postby Patience » Mon Sep 23, 2013 2:21 pm

Regarding time loss. I understand why the host loses time when another alter comes forward and then the host comes back. BUT...when this other alter comes forward, hasn't HE OR SHE lost time as well, if there is no co-consciousness? Or is the host the only one that loses time because he or she is like "home base?" Otherwise wouldn't you be in a continuous state of losing time each time a different alter emerged?

My BF who has DID, has recently had a major switch. I believe that if he switches back, this will be "lost time" to him that he may not remember because I believe I was involved with the host. But, as he has switched now...maybe these past few years are all lost time to THIS alter?

This is exactly what DID is like: being in that continuous state of losing time to each other. Alter 4 might be co-conscious with alter 5 but alter 5 is not co-conscious with alter 4 but maybe with Alter 2 who isn't co-conscious with anyone but knows someone on the inside. And then alter 1 and Alter 9 is co-conscious with each other but only Alter 9 is co-conscious with Alter 10, but Alter 10 doesn't even know there's anyone else and loses time to everyone. This is part of why being with someone who is DID can be so complex; because the time loss can be exactly that: complex.

This is possible. Only their system will know but that is entirely possible, yes.

Hmm..exactly what he told me recently,"I am a very complex person." Unfortunately he is also untreated, so this makes things all the more murky.

He regards the last 10 years of his life as a waste, and NOW finally wants to do what HE wants to do and do something big with his life.

The amnesia barriers in DID can be very complex indeed. And yes, insiders often have massive amounts of lost time. My Alter 3 lost 30 years. One day she woke up and it was like she had been in a coma. Only, while she was gone someone else (me) was busy living in her body and making choices including creating a new family complete with husband and children. That was quite an adjustment.

I do sometimes feel we need to make up for lost time.
Dx DID older woman married w kids. 0 Una, host + 3, 1, 5. 1 animal. 2 older man. 3 teen girl. 4 girl behind amnesia wall. 5 girl in love. Our thread.
