Do you consider yourself insane?

last night there was some comment about feeling completely insane.
Insanity is a pretty outdated term. It's somewhat subjective. If the behaviour is out of control and/or the subject lacks the ability to reason, then sure. There are moments of this, depending on situation and identity state.

I am quoting family guy for this one:
we don't use the word 'insane', we prefer the term 'mentally hilarious'.
I would say depending on the day I will feel insane (lock me up, please), mentally hilarious (i'm just not like other people, am i?) or simply a normal person who's dealt with abnormal circumstances.
Most of the time I feel the 2nd or 3rd, thankfully.

I wrote a blog post about this recently. Not on this site, but I'll summarize.
I consider myself mentally ill because I have OCD.
I don't consider myself mentally ill in any way because I'm part of a DID system. DID is a way of life for us, and feels more natural to us than any other way of living. We love it and prefer it.

Can I say No-(But-Maybe-Yes)? Multiplicity for us preserved sanity in the face of insane circumstances. Like a response to wild environmental factors. Extreme events happened to us in childhood. That things flux to extreme in our heads from time to time is not a big shocker. Emotions are huge (or hugely absent :) ) or the world is scary or time vanished or "I did what?" meets "I don't remember" or being up with nightmares for 2 hours sniffling out trauma is part of the package. Sometimes I felt oh, so this is what going mad is like. And yet life continued in stride. Occasionally, the crazy is only finding (and hating) that electro goth music Ell added on *My* Playlist. So sure, I'm totally crazy by some standards but I know what's real and what isn't; there is a gradation of difference. ;) Don't fret too much. ~ Lola
