Brain

Postby TooCloseToTheEdge » Mon Dec 17, 2012 2:09 pm

Hey. I was wondering. What does the brain of a multiple look like? As in, is it different from anyone else's? Because I am as sure as fate that it doesn't work the same.

Yes, it is slightly different:
http://ajp.psychiatryonline.org/article ... leid=96513 Hippocampal and Amygdalar Volumes in Dissociative Identity Disorder
(Disclaimer: I haven't read the whole article, mainly the abstract.)

Both the Hippocampus and the Amygdala play a role in memory, and both are smaller in people with DID. They increase again somewhat after successful therapy.

It certainly doesn't work the same! That's one thing that is clear. How could there ever be what seem to be different personalities in one body/brain? (They aren't actually different personalities, but different dissociated parts of one personality).
Dx: PDD-NOS. Tested for dissociative disorders and PTSD but they say the symptoms are attributable to PDD-NOS.

While, yes, the brain usually does look different when comparing "normal" people to people with DID, the brain doesn't have to look different to operate differently. For all the changes, varieties, and other things a brain with DID does, it's doesn't look nearly as different as it operates.

This just be my opinion, but I don't be thinkin' the brain has to look different from a "normal" person. I be thinkin' they could sum it up, but they'd have to test every person with DID to be decidin' that.
