New Alters in Dreams

I've read people on here saying before they've met new alters (or existing ones) through dreams, so the dream I had last night made me wonder..

The dream I had last night was very traumatic, and introduced my dad and some of the things he did over and over. But another thing the dream did was list all of us on a large whiteboard, all of our names, like how our signature here does (and we also have a FreeMind chart with an extensive list of roles and traits and such saved). While I don't remember all of the dream, I do remember seeing the whole whiteboard list.. and seeing four names that I've never heard in our system before.

I don't know if I'm making any sense right now. But the board said this:

Georgia (Nymph)" She changed her name recently, but that's unrelated..

The new ones are Brittany, Bethany, Alexei, and Luther. As you can see.. our system is already really large.. so some of us hope this was just a made-up part of a dream. But since waking up, I've been remembering things about being a little kid, and about my dad (trigger warning) hitting me on my arm and telling me to "take it like a man".

Argh. She's out, I guess. My turn. But like, that list is in order of us showing up, too! Except me and Ellie, since we split, but we're an exception. But everyone else. So. Could it like.. be real? Could we have four little kids running around that we dunno about?

For a while, we had dreams about turning into a teenage boy named Evan Whisper and vandalizing in lieu of letting the body sleep. They were so realistic (and I wake up in weird places at night anyway) that I was really worried that Evan Whisper could be real. At this point in time, I don't think that he's real. The dreams continued for about a week, but I haven't seen any proof or hint of him. On the hand, I've met three-four of my other alters in my dreams. However, all of those dreams have been very similar to each other and unsimilar to Evan's dream. I have always been in them as myself, and I've also been introduced to the alters and they will tell me something such as "I'm here to help you." or "I love you." One of them didn't talk, but she gathered me into a hug and then we merged into one two-minded creature.

Talk to your inner people and see if they know. If they don't you could try leaving messages or open pages in your journal addressed to these alters and invite them to respond. We've had some luck that way. Or, if you think they might be too little to read or write, leave drawing supplies out, or even something nice like a piece of chocolate out with the intention that they get to enjoy it.

We have met many of our alters in dreams. We've had times where we've been very stressed that we've dreamed about alters that we now know aren't real, but as LittleRedDogToo wrote; they have been very different from the ones where alters have told us about them. Usually someone draws or writes in a book in the dreams where someone has told us their age, name or existence. Except for the few times where we've dreamed about the "split" itself (the trauma). But we see a pattern. That, and usually the names of such alters will be on repeat in our mind for days on end. Sometimes we dream about alters who have not shared their name and they share it there, other times (like with Cassie & Jacob) I had no idea they existed but I had the dream and then shortly after they switched into the body and communicated with my SO that they are indeed who they seemed to be in the dream.

I'd ask around inside, leave notes, try to think about these names and see if they ring a bell somewhere deep inside. It's very familiar to us as well at least Best of luck with figuring this out

Cassandra's had dreams with alters in them, but usually she has those dreams of alters that are new to her awareness. Still, it is most definitely possible that the list is correct and that those alters are real, you're just unaware of them right now. I'd try establishing communication, calling out or writing notes to those names, and seeing if anyone answers. I'd also try looking around inside and asking everyone else to do the same. Maybe they're not ready to be "found" just yet.

It's not a bad thing to have a large system. It can be difficult to handle at times, yes, but it's not a bad thing. This is could be a very happy thing! You might have just learned about parts of yourselves that you weren't aware of before! You might have just found out some more information about yourself! That's progress and a positive thing! Don't look at it as "Oh, we have too many, this is getting to be too much". Look at it as "Oh wow, we almost left behind some of us! We wouldn't have been able to make much progress or heal without knowing them! Now we can be more of a whole family and work on healing together!".

Best of luck in figuring this out. If I were you, I'd suspect that the dream was truthful until it's proven otherwise.

Okay yeah you're all right.. We dreamt about Alexei last night.. And I've been like "meditating" on their names and kinda more information is coming to me about them. But not much. I just wanna know them!! It's so confusing. But I don't wanna leave anyone behind.

B feels like anyone who hasn't come out to us doesn't trust us so she feels bad about that, like she isn't doing something right or something.

As one who doesn't trust easily, people/alters get that way usually from previous sh*t, and it's usually a personal thing that they carry on to everyone else. It's usually the other way around in that it's the untrusting person's "fault" that they're not trusting someone. Someone could give me all the reasons in the world to trust them, and I'd still be wary about trusting them. It's no one's fault, it's just my own personal issue that I have to overcome if I'm going to trust anyone. I bet something similar is going on with these alters if they do indeed have trust issues.

From what I've read, B does a good job as host, and hasn't done anything "wrong".

You'll get to know them when either you're ready or they're ready, or both. Sometimes, awareness increases slowly in general and it's no one's fault, it's just a process that happens, kinda like peeling an onion. You'll get through all the layers eventually, but it'll take some time. Or, it could be that they're not ready to be known yet. Remember, DID systems/alters are used to hiding. It might take a bit of time and reassurance before they feel comfortable and/or safe with coming forward and letting themselves be known. Or, it could be that they aren't aware of you, the others, or even the DID yet, so they might not know how to come forward at all. There's many possible reasons for why they haven't come forward yet, but at least things will become clearer with time.

B shouldn't feel bad. I highly doubt she, or anything she's done, is the reason for why these alters haven't come forward yet.

How've you guys learned so much about DID and stuff?? Whenever we read your guys' posts we're like, yeah, they know what they're talking about. :p Your posts always help us whenever we're questioning stuff.

Believe it or not, all we know about DID is from high school psychology classes, self-done research, this site, and our own experiences. And on top of that, the high school classes and most of our self-done research was done 3 years ago. (We've done/did some research on our own outside of high school, but not often, and not a lot of it).

Though we were in therapy, we were only diagnosed with "Possible DID" due to a skeptical psychologist, and so our therapy mainly only focused on our depression and PTSD (with some focus on our other diagnoses, which were rapid cycling bipolar disorder, anxiety, and visual hallucinations-cause unknown. I think that's everything we were diagnosed with). Our 2nd therapist was awesome and would discuss things like alters and voices if we brought them up, but she would never bring up DID herself, and wasn't that familiar with DID, although she would always try to help the best she could no matter what.


I'd say that most of the credit goes to sheer luck, actually. We were lucky to have awareness early on, and we are lucky that we're such a co-conscious system. We were also lucky that Kat, Rain, and L.C. had no problems coming forward and making themselves known to Cassandra. I'd say first real awareness of the voices not being an imaginary friend or our conscience or anything like that happened around 7th or 8th grade. So it's taken us... about 8 years to increase awareness and gather the knowledge we have, without a certain diagnosis, and with only having 3 years worth of non-DID-related therapy (and therapy didn't happen until junior year in high school, so after the first 4 years of those 8 years).
After about 8 years of awareness, and however many years of living with it, I'd hope we'd know something about DID!

And we're like, well, the body's 19 so we're about three years behind you so hopefully we'll catch up and won't have to ask dumb questions about meeting alters in dreams and stuff.

For what it's worth, I don't think it was a stupid question at all
