We may be attention junkies, but even we only want certain types of attention. Could we really stand it if everyone hated us? Fearing us, sure (at least, for the guys, as it gives an aura of power, which attracts women and the possibility of the aforementioned true love or at least lust), but everyone hating us? Probably not.

Taking a guess, I'd suggest people with BPD are seeking attention which amounts to emotional validation or attention to satiate particular emotional needs, while people with HPD want any kind of attention?

I don't think most people with BPD want to be feared, though I can imagine that could become an identity for some my guess would be that wanting to be feared is probably not BPD-related, lol.

Yeah, I think it's a trait.. I know two girls with BPD and they, like me, do stupid things for attention: of course always without 'knowing' it's about attention..

A lot of really good replies here! Attention seeking? Good and bad? Borderline? Of course. I would go so far as to say that many of the Cluster B Personality Disorders share some common traits. How about lying and manipulation any one?

F**k!! My post above was a complete lie, because I'm completely heterosexual..

Does that count as lying or just a minor fib?

I feel like I'm going to hell now!

Honestly ignoring me is the one surefire way to upset me. It's how my parents punish me because they know how much I hate it. But I love attention. I tend to be more sexual than I even like in order to get attention, even though I'm not sure I like it.

But I also have narcissistic traits...so that could be part of it.

I'm not really an attention fan personally. Actually, I despise it. The only thing I do that is attention seeking is when I become so overwhelmed by emotion that I end up go on and on hoping someone will take the pain away (which they can't of course). So yes, when I'm at my worst, I want validation to feel better.

I'm afraid I can't help personally, I don't really have BPD.

I can try my hand at attention seeking though:
