Am I in denial?

Postby boswife24301 » Thu Feb 25, 2016 2:44 am

I've been in a depression for weeks now and it's only getting worse. I'm waiting on a call back from my pdoc. Today I started talking about giving all my stuff away and selling my car. Now my parents are worried I'm suicidal. I have been thinking about death but not about doing anything to myself. Am I more depressed than I think I am? Should I be making the phone calls that say I'm in crisis? Help please¡!!!!!!!!!

Hi Boswife.
If you think it is time to make the phone calls that say you are in crisis, then do it now. Better too soon than too late.

Regarding your "Call Back" system, how long have you been waiting? Can you talk to a nurse or receptionist at your Pdoc's office that will be able to raise the urgency of your call? Your parents are concerned about you. Would it help if they put a call in too?

Are you safe right now? If you don't feel safe, then get to a hospital Emergency Department. They will be able to do a preliminary assessment and will get you a specialized psychiatric assessment if needed. If you can't get to a hospital, then would a call to the police help? Where I live, if you explain your situation, they will come check on you and take you to a hospital.

Are you alone? Is there anyone who can come over, or who you could go to so you are not alone? You mentioned your parents. Are they close enough that you could be with them?

I feel useless on the forum sometimes... What I want you to know is that you are not alone. There are people here who care about you and want you to get the help you need.

Glad you are not alone! Parents do their best to be supportive. Sometimes mine just didn't get it but they were doing their best. Talk to them. Trust them.

Let us know tomorrow how your call to the pdoc nurse goes. I have found they have a direct line to the president's office when needed.

I hope you get a good night sleep.

Sorry you're struggling and I really hope you've managed to see your pdoc now.

I'm not sure how things work where you are, but I'm in the UK and here we have crisis teams who are supposed to help people stay out of hospital if possible. They can come to your home to help treat you there. I had to use them years ago when I was in crisis, but not in hospital. I wonder if there's a similar service near you?

Also, my National Health Service pdoc has a few slots per day reserved for emergency appointments, which I've had to make use of before. I know not everyone has access to such care but just wanted to give you some ideas.

Other than that, the Emergency Room option is always there, and I've used that before when abroad and in crisis. Good luck and let us know how you get on if you can.
