Ataraxia and Aspergers

Postby JoachimBoaz » Tue Aug 09, 2011 2:53 pm

I have been diagnosed with mild Aspergers.
Tho i think the 'professional' was a bit simple.

My daughter is a psychologist and she put it this way.

Profound aspergers can indeed be debilitating in modern society.
But variants of mild aspergers are what is most lauded in a dog eat dog society.
Lack of compassion. Ruthlessness. A zen like self centeredness.

Ataraxia or Ataraxy. calm disinterest emotionally in what surrounds us.
Almost the essence of scientific objectivism.

The opposite of screaming pannicking fools that is depicted as the 'norm' in a situation where the
pooh hits the fan.

As i noticed there is a arrogance thread.

I think there is something in this. Perhaps another diagnosis involving ataraxia.

i came across the terms of ataraxia and aponia a few years ago. imo, ataraxia can almost be synonymous with autistic traits, whether because of egocentricity or because of the logical, systematic understanding of causality regarding all things around us.

the only arguement i have against this is that the anxiety felt by Aspies regarding change or overwhelming social situations fly in the face of it, unless they're stoned

I approach everything with scientific reasoning even things that are "supposed to be" approached emotionally as deemed by society. I suppose that makes me seem cold and self centered because I dissect a situation and come at it from a logical perspective.

Ataraxy is a fixation of mine.
A synergy of objectivism and Philosophy/religion. Nyeh
but then again..im crazy ;). A Philosophy/Religion? what is that?

We make our way with the tools we have. The skills.
Some can. some cannot.

I, bless the existance i have. What other define me as is the least of my troubles.

I must admit, after seeing how emotions can distort the interpretation of things and prevent clear headed thinking. Alongside experiencing how anxiety can scramble your thoughts, I have lately preferred to sit back when arguments flare up and be the one who stays calm and able to clearly think. Regardless of whether it leads to the right conclusions. I do still feel a lot though and feel anger and despair at injustice and cruelty. My challenge right now is to find out the appropriate balance between them.

I guess you could call one of my obsessions the relationships between emotions, reason, social interaction and how they influence society and ourselves with a philosophical outlook. A synergy of objectivism and philosophy is interesting and not weird.
"And they tell me there are people who are normal, but I don't know what they look like because I have never met one. And neither have you, so why not compare yourself to real people instead?" (Weird? at www.Viruscomix.com)
