As Aspies we've all got things that annoy or irritate, here are a few of mine:
Ticking clocks: especially when I'm trying to sleep! (as I've got extra sensitive hearing)
When I stay at my grandparents' house, they have so many clocks it's untrue, and I have to move them (much to their annoyance/irritation! - "you'd better not break that clock...it was given to me as a present by...",etc...etc!)
Grammar/spelling mistakes: no-one's perfect, and of course I make mistakes sometimes too, but internet forums are literally awash with mistakes! I had a strict private education, and mistakes weren't allowed by my English teacher, with each one being highlighted and corrected; if you made the same mistake again after correction, he would want to speak with you about it.
Contrast that with a relatively good local school, whereby after reading a neighbour's English work, noticed that a lot of the mistakes were left in! It is a 'bug bear' I have had to come to terms with, as I've learned from my Buddhist meditation (I need it!) to accept the things you can't change (and do something about the things you can!). Working as an English teacher myself has been a blessing and a curse in this respect too! I notice them subconsciously and they grate on me, with me going back to them to identify the error...maybe I should be a proofreader!
Primary examples are "your" instead of "you're" and problems with "their", "there" and "they're"....I know English is a pain sometimes, but it's not that difficult! (especially for a native English speaker - in fact, many foreigners I have taught have a better command of English grammar!)
Loud, drunk people (and often with low intelligence) are the next....people of low intellect often keep quiet, adhering to the old proverb: "it's better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid , than to open it and remove all doubt!" - this is especially true with these people when drunk!
I have sensory issues already, and my extra sensitive hearing doesn't appreciate this type of behaviour (particularly when coupled with poor grammar!)
Smells: especially body odour and people smelling like walking ash trays; I also have an extra sensitive sense of smell, and overpowering smells like these knock me sick and disgust me. One thing that I've also noticed is that I can smell the hormones of a woman when she's on her period (in a relatively confined space), and that can get uncomfortable too, for example on public transport (which I have a problem with using anyway), or in a lift, etc.
They're some of my 'pet peeves', what are yours?
