I like this thread :P

I agree, lots of robberies and such could be avoided rather easily, but many people would say that they 'have something, or rather someone, to live for.' Friends, kids, other family members... And they wouldn't be able to stand the thought of leaving them, in which case they will do anything in their power to completely avoid any possibly harmful situations in every way, regardless of how slim the chances are of them actually dying.

 hope I made sense

You all talk as if you've been in that situation, but until you have, you don't really know how you're going to react. You can disagree with me, but the fact is you don't.

Some of us have. :)

Why do you think it confuses me so much? Purely because I WAS in a situation like this, very recently, with a friend. (I've actually been in situations like this more than I'd like. I will die soon, i'm sure of it.) He almost $#%^ himself, I didn't react at all. I asked him why he was so scared after.. he said he was afraid to die. Truth be told, if It had been just him, he very well may have died. The guy backed the ###$ off because I didn't move. 2v1, even if ones scared.. most won't risk it. BECAUSE THEY FEAR DEATH! lol.

When i asked him why he reacted so.. poorly, all he had was #######4. No real answer. Just a programmed response to danger. All the rationalizations people make after the fact doesn't cover up the fact that it's instinctual, and easily overcome. Some are born without, some are trained to turn off. Some are turned off via.. bad things happening to them. Many ways, same end result.

People fear the unknown.

I'm 99% sure that dying is like going to sleep (although more painful under some circumstances) so don't fear it. and no, there is no bloody afterlife.

Frankly, I wouldn't mind if a sniper shot me walking on the sidewalk tomorrow. Life is SO fuking boring. I've done everything and I'm only 20.

This blows.

(I still manage to stay happy and have fun but it takes WORK - it would be MUCH easier to die)

GO DEATH!

(oh and to those who say I've never been in a situation where my life was at stake - I've had knives held to my gut on multiple occasions and been stabbed in the arm once - tried to grab it from him, lol)

honestly, though, it isn't fearlessness per se, it's more I honestly don't care if I die.

(that said, I do look both ways before crossing the road; the image of my body getting mangled under a car's tires is just too ugly...)

so if I die, I must go prettily :)

It's much more than fearing the unknown.

Death, specifically is the most publicized "Supposed to have" fear.

It's an instinct, I can state that.

But I can also state with proof on both cases, some people are born without it and some shut it off themselves.

But yea, largely I think the reason the fear of DEATH specifically is one of the "Strongest" is because it's by far the most publicized. Above all else, death is the worst thing in the world, according to the general way of thinking.

It's also the only fear that influences every person in a rediculous amount of ways each day. Tiny, tiny insignificant yet.. oh so important ways. Most "irrational" fears go *Some random thing* leads to *death*.

That's just a good example of how the media uses the general publics fear of death to try and control their choices.
