emotional abuse and mental illness ? help please

Postby rainbowbrite380 » Sat Dec 10, 2005 6:42 pm

hello ,i have been with my antisocial disorder bf for 6 years now, he was both pysically and verbally abusive to me for much of that time, we are going through kinda of a peaceful time right now he swears he is changing, we will see i suppose . i am doing alot of reading about his disorder and alot about abuse , , but i have not found anything with any substance or more than a one liner about the combination of the 2. i am wondering if anyone knows of any literature about abuse and mental illness , and looking for any oppinions about it, iam not sure whether to blame/beangry with him or the disease and am wondering if there is some kind of different etiquette for dealing with him than somone more sane. i don't know i guess i'm just flat out looking for advice. thanks for your time and thoughts. have a wonderful day.

Oh Rainbow I do feel for what you are going through and I know first hand. The insults, the swearing, the inconsistent behavior - he loves you one minute and hates you the next is all hard to understand. I try to ignore it when my significant person is in one of his moods or just leave the house, so he can cool off and behave like a normal person again. I struggle with the same thoughts. I overlook his behavior because he does have a medical illness and I hope he will outgrow it like some with his disorder do. If you really believe he will never change then it might be time to consider leaving. Plan carefully though. My doctor told me men with his illness won't let go easily. I wish you the best of luck.
