The silent treatment..

My ex has been emotionallyand mentally abusive towards me I've been called just about every name under the sun and belittled and critised when I've become upset or tried to discuss his behavior I end up getting the silent treatment i try to reason with him and communicate and I get a wall of silence I begged him to resolve our issues so it didn't ruin our sons 1st Christmas he ignored me and made to attempt to see him at all now its a month emotionally and mentally it kills me I've never had to deal with anything like this and it doesn't just affect me it affects the children .What is the purpose of this
