Can it be called emotional abuse?

Postby B28S12 » Fri May 30, 2014 9:15 pm

Hey ;)

I am married to my husband since almost 4 years. In the early beginnigs he was very nice, but then he became very aggressive and started saying hurtful things to me like:
I swear I'll cheat on you;
I'll leave you when I get tired of you
I will forbid you to use the internet
I will have a child with somenone else if you do have to go on taking these psychmeds
and so on...

For me it is emotional abuse and I also think he might have a histrionic or a narcissistic PD.
Should I write down more things he said to me to help you to give him a "diagnosis".

hi B28S12,
he sounds pretty cruel and mean to me. why would you imagine a future with him?
does he smile when he tells you this? there are people that do not need a diagnosis, they are just like him, unsensitive, mean, cruel....sorry!

Yes, it is verbal abuse you are experiencing, and it is a form of emotional abuse.
I am not an expert but I am reading a lot about this as I am just trying to overcome childhood verbal abuse.
I advise you to perhaps read about it to understand your husband. I am just reading this book and it has great insights into the thinking of abusive man: "Why Does He Do That?: Inside the Minds of Angry and Controlling Men" by Lundy Bancroft. Unfortunately, there's not a lot of hope him changing, so you will probably have to leave him eventually.

Hi I would agree that he is abusive and i hope you have a neighbour or relative you can turn to. Otherwise i fear the verbal abuse will at some point turn physical. A friend from the UK.
