What actually is a moderator on this site?

I joined this forum yesterday after reading about Asperger's on here and seeing a post to which I wished to reply. I wrote a long, personal and heartfelt response to a poster and there was an immediate response by the moderator with his/her opinion and disagreement with me. I tried to explain my point and each time I said something there was a response by the moderator. It was very strange to me because this person seemed to have no real understanding of what I was saying or what my point was. Every time this person paraphrased what he thought I was saying all I could think was huh? because it just wasn't correct. I felt like I was on this person's personal blog about his own illness rather than a public forum to share thoughts about a particular topic. When I last looked at the thread, another response was posted and the thread was locked. So a thread that should have been a place for people to share opinions and experiences seemed to be one that is simply controlled by the moderators personal opinions and feelings, and anything contrary is moved or locked. I was disappointed because I thought it was an important topic and I felt like the moderator became defensive because of what he felt was something contrary to his opinion about the disease. I thought moderators were on there to see that all ran smoothly and that there was no abuse of a thread. Am I wrong? Or on here, is it simply to give a reply and opinion to each post? This just confused me and now I am diappointed that I will not see a response from the author of the thread, the person to whom I was actually trying to share with, because a moderator didn't like what I had to say and didn't agree that it should be a part of his disease. Forums are for sharing information, so people can learn and understand. Perhaps I just got someone on a bad day or maybe sometimes with so many postings a moderator begins to just make assumptions about a particular point a person is trying to make without really knowing. However, it was a negative and disappointing experience for a newbie to this site. And if I need to post again I will just avoid that particular moderator and assume it is not like that throughout. Phew...done venting....thanks for allowing it.
