I pulled for close to 20 years. I have been 90% free of trich for three years now, going on four. If anyone needs help, find someone who will work with you using ACT. The therapist who helped me co-wrote this book: Trichotillomania: An ACT-enhanced Behavior Therapy Approach Workbook

This isn't a plug for him at all. He really helped me. Things that help you not pull are only temporary. I noticed when I would keep my mind off of it, I would pull more later. I hope everyone who wants to, can control it. That said, I still have the urge to pull but my brain now knows when to turn it off or tune it out.

hi.I ritualistically wear soft gloves while driving at all times.and at bed.I make sure to wash my hair every day.the oil build up must be scrubbed off as it makes my scalp itchy.I use some anti itch spray. I also take biotin it makes you hair grow. I even got extensions last year while going through a growing out my hair phase it worked. just never give up . the urges will quiet down once you play with tips n tricks. its not instant but takes a few months for me .

Check out You Tube, Many have posted about Trich on there

Postby Trickhat » Wed Mar 19, 2014 12:38 pm

I learned from one of our members that folks have posted videos on You Tube about their
trich stories etc. I watched a few last night and they were so impressive, brave and touching.
They also gave some really good tips. One I learned was this:
The woman said, when you find your hand going towards your head....she called it the "red zone", the minute you notice say STOP. Then deliberately bring that hand down and have it
grasp the wrist of your other hand. Squeeze the wrist until the urge passes.

There are more and more ways and places for us to reach out to one another.

Did you know that there is a Trich Convention in California the weekend of April 25th?
Many speakers, help for kids, etc. I wish it wasn't so far away. It is quite affordable, too.
Maybe some of our members can go. Some of you may be already signed up.
Together we are overcoming the grip this has on us. Community is stronger than solitary
pain.

I just tried biking gloves to stop pulling. They reminded me not to pull whenever I felt my hand reaching for my hair. They didn't entirely work always. I occasionaly pulled. I think I might continue to wear them.
And they look super cool.

I just bought a tangle toy a few days ago and I recommend it. It isn't particulary attention attracting for a toy and you can wear it around your neck or wrist. I have been wearing in on my wrist. I had heard of them before but decided to buy one after watching a video by Beckie0 stating that they were particularly helpful.

definitely keeping a buzz cut , every 2-3 weeks helped me a lot. Luckily i pay only $6.00 but occasionally
I cut it my-self . keep it as low as possible, 0 or , 0 is not shaven. I'm a guy and I know this is easier for guys than girls but it really helps and perhaps you can make it into a fashion, and the benefit of not any medication.

and something i just learned. the oragel "gel" DOES NOT work as well as the original formula. the gel never dries. the original stuff does and that seems to create a decent barrier.
