weird?!

Postby scarred_cutter » Mon Oct 20, 2008 10:41 am

okay, so this may seem really freaky and abnormal. because it is. does anyone else uhh...save their hairs? Like, i have them all in an envelope. I pull pubes so they're short so they're easy to keep but it just seems kind of disgusting to me!!

I've known of other people that did the same thing. Seems weird but not entirely rare. Its funny you think its disgusting.

I would try to look within and find my motive. Hair is a common symbol for power. And saving something is analogous to studying it.

I guess only you can figure out your own motives, but it might help to know what motives other folk have who do similar things.

Its funny because of the contradiction.

Its one of those things, like a wart on a persons nose, that other people notice easily but you do not see yet.

For example, if a person eats pork chops every day, and every day as they are eating them they say "pork chops are gross" you would scratch your head.

There would be a few points.

a) first, obviously there is a reason they eat them. There is some benefit, maybe even conscious, that they get.

b) second, maybe they only say "pork chops are gross" because they think other people think that they are. Maybe they are trying to react to something somebody said, or anticipate an "attack" from others (and thus not be caught off guard).

c) that kind of contradiction only means that something is being done unconsciously. In other words, the one single thing that is lacking is awareness. The philosopher's stone. (google it if you don't know the phrase).

Also... your name "scarred cutter" is good. It has an obvious meaning, as well as a deeper one, which is the sign of a creative person. It reminds me of sayings like "meditation: its not what you think" (which also has an obvious meaning that everybody sees, and then a deeper meaning that only contemplative people notice).

Anyway, saving hairs is a weird and cool pastime, so long as you have curiosity (and maybe fear) about why you, and others, do it. Maybe it will spark an interest, in you, in psychology and symbolism and understanding.

thanks about the name :) i think it sums me up quite well because of it you can get an idea of how i look and who i am...well, i think anyways :)

Not of how you look to others, nor of who you are. It says something about how you see yourself. You're a cutter and you're scarred.

It's kind of a cool name because it has a sort of full circle in it, cause and effect. Sort of like "fingerless_chainsawuser" but not so final. Maybe more like "tired_insomniac".

Collecting/saving/hording things is only sick if your saving things that less than 10% of people collect.

collecting money = very normal (a millionaire is respected for holding onto his/her wealth, even though 30,000 children starve to death daily in poor areas)

collecting shoes/clothes/etc = mostly normal

collecting teeth (incl baby teeth), hair (usually from someone you care for), photos, etc = normal, but indicates insecurity (joking)

collecting scars/bad experiences/etc = normal in a younger person, but gets weird if a person remains self destructive into their 50s and beyond

if you are good friends with any very old person (and they will be completely honest) ask them what sort of strange things they have collected during the many different phases of their life.

If they can't come up with something weirder than hairs then you found a very boring old person.

haha ok i'll ask my gran :)

the name kind of sums up how i look coz i've got lots of scars everywhere? but yeah, that's only a feature of me

i just think it's sick because it seems dirty. which is stupid because hair is usually very clean but we all have this perception that hair is gross and dirty, so i guess that's what makes me think like that :)

Well, there's a flip side.

When you are sixty years old and your grandkid says he or she is collecting leafs from trees with broken branches... and they want to know if you ever collected anything weird, you have to say "well dear, I was a fruitloop when I was young. I collected ..."

hehe yeah i doubt my gran did anything weird though! she's always been uber shocked about my mental problems...i read one of her letters to a friend in england...ok, i know i shouldn't have, but she gave them to me to burn in the fire, so i couldn't resist! anyways, she was going on about the weirdest thing she heard of when she was growing up was someone ripping her nails 'til they bled, when she got sad. and that she's shocked that i'd use a blade...blah blah.

not sure why i'm saying this :) anyways, i doubt she's a weird hoarder :) but i'll poke her brain and see, i could come up with all sorts of stuff we never knew :D
