Hi there. I'm new to the site and just thought I'd say hi. I'm 29 and have been pulling my hair now since I was 10. I go through periods where I can leave the hair to grow, but then I ruin it within minutes and then get left with the guilt and annoyance that I've done it again!!
I'm trying to get it to a length where I can get extensions put in. I currently have to wear it up most of the time, but when its at its longer length, i can disguise it by covering the top bald patch by having a side parting.
I'm hoping to get some tips and info from this site to help me with my quest to finally stop pulling. :D

Hi there Claire,

Would wearing some sort of a hat at home stop you from pulling at your hair? I used to pull my hair when I was younger but I managed to stop. My main problem is my nails which I bite everyday. My only way to stop doing it is by wearing gloves!

Take care,
Kevin.

I've found recently that having false nails attached helps, as I can't get hold of each strand like I usualy do. Wearing a hat would be a bit of problem for me as my boyfriend doesn't know i do it, and that might be a bit of a giveaway. Thanks for the idea though.

Hmm, okay. Sorry, I'm not too familiar with Trichotillomania to be honest. I guess that - yes - just stick to what already helps you (i.e. the false nails thing).

maybe you should get a new "toy" or "gadget." something that is hand held or some sort of a puzzle that you can carry around with you. for example if you pull when you are watching tv or something, you can fiddle around with a koosh ball or something or that sort.
